For textures, the first place I go is http://www.cgtextures.com/ . Its a site with 100s of royalty free images that can be used as textures. It is all categorised, so stuff is easy to find.

They look a lot better now because I added a bit of a fudge factor when testing if something is in shadow. This was to allow for any trimming when the distance got stored as a color. |

Indeed it was compiled in debug mode didn't think it would be a problem sorry for that but anyway even in release mode you would still need the Visual C++10 runtime files.

This is happening because (I believe/guess) that it was compiled in debug mode and not release mode.

Yes! Got shadow mapping happening! I have changed the scale of the game, relative to the player model, which seems to work a lot better.
