|
|
From what little I've learned by reading about 3D modeling (I'll admit, I'm hardly an artist, I just pretend I am because I need graphics for my games, haha), one is supposed to use as few objects as possible. One way of achieving this is by extruding and such.
I have a rather simple shape to make, however, extruding, which is usually the answer to everything, isn't going to work. I start with a regular cube. I want to add some more sides to this cube, so it's not a cube anymore. Once I add some more sides, I will move the vertices around and get the shape I want.
To add more sides to my cube, I use the edge tool and select one of the faces of my cube. Then I hit split. Once I have split the face, I have access to the vertices I want, which is good... except if I use those alone, I get weird drawing fragments. I thought I would fix this issue by connecting those two vertices, but, that did not help either, and there are still drawing fragments.
Any ideas? All I'm drawing is a 3D arrow, and I have drawn much harder things before... but, obviously I am still lacking some very basic skills.
(Yes, I could very easily draw another cube and merge them together, but, that isn't really proper or "the right way" is it? I'm just trying to learn it right, hehe.)
Thanks! |

There is no "proper way". That's why all those options exist. Don't stress yourself out trying not to 'cheat', especially when it makes your modelling life harder. As long as you get the final result right.
You might try the line tool to draw and arrow, then extrude the thing. But that might make faces on the inside. If you can't get it done, show me what you want. Maybe I can do a little write up / tutorial to show how to get it done. _________________

Why not draw you arrow with a Polyline and extrued it? _________________ "Do or do not. There is no try."

This is indeed the way to go. Also, using Extrude By Region will make sure no polygons exist on the inside. |
