@nrb: What I know of Constructor is based on online documentation, not on actual use, but it seems that
a) They are facing the same problems as we are: as long as direct-to-.DIF export isn't finished Constructor is using the map2dif tool and the .MAP format to export .DIF's, meaning smoothing is only available within Constructor itself, not within the .DIF and Torque (as the intermediate .MAP format doesn't support it). In other words, not much use. Direct to .DIF exporting is on the list for our Torque exporter, too. Once we get that covered, smoothing of angles actually becomes useful.
b) Constructor uses smoothing based on crease angles (automatic smoothing based on bend between adjacent faces). The DeleD lightmapper is based on the same principle (*), and we have plans to extend this option to real-time normals as well. Would you strongly prefer the cumbersome but direct control of smoothing groups to the much easier setup of a crease angle?
(*) Disclaimer: Currently, the lightmapper crease angle option is flawed, but it will be restored in one of the upcoming 1.5x DeleD versions.
@rest: thanks for the kind words, they make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside... |
