At first I like to say this editor is the most appealing to me. I was looking for a 4-view editor a long time.
But now the problem. I am totaly new at creating 3D models (I did Autocad projects buts that something different). I know how most things work but I don't seem to get something done.
I tried something very basic. Made a sphere. On that sphere I wanted to place 2 circles to give it eyes. But even that goes wrong. How do I get the 2 circles on the sphere? Do I need to move every point of the circles to match the sphere?
What I am looking is usefull tips. There has to be tips which will make my 3D editing live better |

You don't actually need to move each vertex, but the body as a whole. Therefore, you go to object mode (hotkey: o?), select "move" and move it to the correct position. Be aware that, when you move it in one view, only two of three coordinates are correct and so you might need to modify it again in another view.
I see, we need tutorials.

Check this out, it seems to be a fine tutorial, at first sight. _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

I know I can move the object but it seems I need to 'bend' the circle to put it on the sphere. |

Because a circle is 2-dimentional and a sphere is 3-dimensional. _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

You are probably thinking of using metaballs or spline objects. Things don't work like that in DeleD. It's basically a low polygon game object modeller at this point, and you have to manually adjust everything. There is no 'bending' that way. There are only vertices and connections between them to make triangles. You have to segment any object enough so that you can have it 'bend' and then move the vertices in the proper places. _________________

Hey there Henkie, and welcome to the forums!
The way to bend items is by moving individual vertices, edges or polygons of the object. This can be rather timeconsuming if your object contains lots of details. The high-end modelling packages out there have functions to assist in bending stuff and DeleD will also have such functions in the future. In the mean time, moving individual items is the way to go. Hope this helps! |

Thanks for the welcome
The more advanced editors cost money (most of them) and real hard to learn. Any option to move multiple points to preserve the circle. Moving them manualy makes it a circle with corners |

Make sure that the object is not set to vertex snapping. Right click on it while selected, select properties and set the snapping to none or center. _________________

If you want eyes on the sphere, you can just paint them into a texture, and texture the sphere with the eyes-containing texture.
Another good tool is the CSG tools that can "cut" pieces out of other pieces. You can, for example, stick cylinders into the sphere, that stick out where the eyes should be. Use the sphere as a stencil and split the cylinder. Now, isolate the "cut" end cap of the cylinder as your eye geometry, and nudge it forward a smidgen; it'll sit very nicely on the sphere.
Note: CSG is only available in the paid-for version of DeleD. It's well worth the money for that feature alone! |

Tell me about it; my whiskey bill doubled for each child!
Well, not really, but your life will never be the same. At least with the computer, you can stay in the house. |
