i saw somewhere something about bump mapping and it looked really great so i wonder how can i make a bump map myself?

The quick and easy way is to just make your texture greyscale and play around with the contrast until you get something that looks good. Just make sure the parts that should be lit more are lighter, and the parts that curve inward are the darker parts. Then you can work on adding scratches or bumps into the greyscale version. _________________

What you want to do is generate a normal map, and then render using that normal map. There are tons of tutorials out there if you search for it.
One way of generating normal maps is to paint a displacement map (like a grayscale height map), and calculate a normal map out of that; the NVIDIA texture tools for Photoshop have a good plug-in for that. |

a good way is to desaturate the image snad then apply emboss
with a emboss direction that is matching your intended average light direction .
the make a 2nd emboss anbut have teh light direction 180 the add teh 2 images .
and play with strengths to controll look of final map and then normal mo if you want even more detail showing through . _________________ old fart coder |
