I am working on a race track to be used with Torque. I built these tracks in 3Ds max however.
Seeing that I am a newbie, I didn't take into consideration pretty much everthing. How would I go about recreating these tracks? I can make the straight aways and flat turns as a .dts file but when it comes to making a steep spiral turn my collision detection does not work. I have been told that I need to make them in sections an as .dif files. I do like the idea of developing a track editor but first I need to get a trake working. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Like you already mentioned yourself, I would suggest creating different small track sections and save them as prefabs for use later. That way, you probably don't need to create a track-editor right away (allthough I can imagine a track-editor having more functionality than "just" geometry editing). So... for example, create a small and a long straight piece of road, a 1/4 turn, a 1/4 turn going slightly downwards (or upwards, which is a matter of how you look at the piece ) and/or variations on the theme. Once you have such pieces, it's easy to create a complete track with them because you can just use those prefabs over and over again. I would create such prefabs using Center snapping for each piece, which makes using them in a complete track even easier. Also, I think using the PolyLine primitive would serve you well in this case.
I'm sure there are people here that wanna give creating such prefabs a try... |

Making dts shapes in deled is kinda difficult, as you have to export your track to another app to export it as a dts. You could however, make those shapes as dif and you would have no problem with collision in torque.
I actually started making a track to use with the terrain in torque a while back, but never finished becouse the torque exporter wouldn't export the objects at the time. The exporter as it stands now would most likely export them fine tho. Unfortunately, my puter crashed during a defrag operation and totally screwed up windows, so I had to format and reinstall. (I'm still reinstalling everything), so everything I had made is gone.
I may attempt it again sometime. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.
