I've been looking through my other options before buying anything... I looked at DeleD & Cartography Shop 4(3d world studio too)... Which one is the best? The thing is I'm having a problem... I'm making building models with DeleD and I tried to make terrain with Nem's Terrain Generator.. and load it into DeleD.. but all my terrains are just soo freaken huge, it's slowly loads in DeleD but when I try to export it in .x .. DeleD crashes every time... so basicly I'm wondering I can make my whole world in DeleD .. like a whole village.. and also make terrain in DeleD?
Terrain's a huge.. issue any, tutorials? Plugins? or what not? |

Terrain can be made easily in two ways:
1. Just make a large grid object and raise/lower the vertices manually until you get the look you want.
or
2. Use the Landscape Generator Plugin. _________________

If you use a grid, you'll just have to play around with the settings and how large to make the grid until you get it right.
As for the plugin, you have to install it to your DeleD folder and you can then find it in the Plugins drop-down menu (alt + p). _________________

The landscape pluggin goes in "deled/pluggins/" folder, then you can see it in the pluggins link at the top of deled. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

This plugin has an installer, so you really want to direct it to your DeleD folder, not your plugin one. _________________

Does the landscape generator plug-in still work? I've tried it once or twice, but it hasn't wanted to load for me. It's for a fairly old version of DeleD.
If you get crashes exporting X files using the built-in DeleD X exporter, you might also want to try NuXporter (found in the plug-ins section). |

What we need is a simple DISPLACE tool. You load an image, and then you get a X * Y grid object (with user selected X and Y) with the height displaced by the image. _________________

or a simple "create hightmap from image" and apply it to a plane.
(btw, I use the term "simple" very loosely. ) _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

This is why I asked the poll question whether DeleD should have terrain editing features. I can imagine DeleD having a displace function but the thing is: when do we stop implementing such terrain features? If DeleD has a displace function, you can bet someone will come forward and ask for more. So... all or nothing? Or a limited toolset? I think I'd like a limited toolset for starters and making sure DeleD is compatible with terrain editing software out there. |
