Optimize works very well on the output from the text command. Even using it 3 or more times, it pretty much halves the polygon count without losing any detail at all.
You should probably just run ~3 optimizes automatically when the text is created. Just a thought. _________________

Well, I thought it was a good idea. It works great, and the text does end up with lots of redundant triangles. Everytime I click optimize, more and more of them go away, and the text remains the same shape. _________________

Yeah, it's a good idea allright! I've been playing with it a bit yesterday and an auto-optimize would do good in this particular case. Especially on the high detail texts! |

The only question is how many times to run it. I suggest three, but it keeps working after that. _________________
