Items should be selectable in 3d view by just left clicking them. And they should be unselected by clicking anywhere else in the scene.

You can select Objects (in all Views) with Shift + Leftclick and Unselect them when you clicking into a free space.

Also, shift+CTRL+leftclick adds items to your current selection. This method works for all items (vertices, edges, polygons, faces and objects). Hint: read the Help, that helps. Wink

Yeah I know, but the shift button doesn't even need to be in the equation at all. The less time touching the keyboard, the better. That is the only thing that 3dws did right. You can build an entire scene very fast using just the mouse.

The more you use the editor, the more you will have a hand on the keyboard anyway, because you will be using hotkeys and such. I don't find it much disturbing when you have to press Shift to select something, though it seems to be logical only to left click. In MS3D, you even have to hit F1 to go to select mode and then go to move or scale mode with F2 or F3. The right mouse button is used for the context menu, which maybe should be accessable with a button in the corner of a view, then the button would be free but, i don't know, they probably won't change it.

Using a combination of keyboard and mouse gives more options to do things. Changing the mouse & keyboard handling would mean everybody has to get used to another way of doing things again. We won't change things like this just like that, but we might think about a more customizable userinterface where you can choose how the keyboard & mouse react. Low priority though because just as with any other program, people need to learn the userinterface anyway, no matter how it works. Smile
