Could someone give me a good idea how to create lovely trees in DeleD, i had a go but ended up with something that looked like a wooden washing line! _________________ Argh!! Nothing I lay my hands on works! |

Heh. I tried this various times myself, all of them not very successful. I know how to create the trunk (?), but the rest is more difficult. _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

the most part of trees is the texture so it's more how good you can make or have textures than how good you can model.
here is a free example from the got3d website that you can study:
http://www.got3d.com/free/Got3d-Low-Polygon-Tree-Demo.zip
there has already been a discussion about this subject which you can find here:
http://www.delgine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2086
EDIT: also important is if you want to create a realistic of a fantasy tree, because realistic trees are much harder to do. |

Moved to 3D Modelling.
Here is what I did:
1. Create Boxes that overlap each other and form a rough circle
2. Use Union
(3. Optimize)
4. Extrude the object to this shape:
You can also rotate the vertices a little after each step of extrusion.
5. Smooth:
Like I said, it still needs branches and leaves and I don't have good texture files for that and I'm to lazy to search some! _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

That's a nice trick there, Fletcher.
Btw, have you tried using an extruded polyline for the trunk? |

Most of the trees I've seen use a semi transperant plane with texture for the tree top. (leaves/branches)
If you tried to model every leaf, your polycount would be so high you would have a very hard time getting it into a game. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

OK.
I got the texture and alphablended it. Then i put it on a rectangle and cloned the rectangle 356 times, rotating it one degree each time.
I got a white blob. [/img] _________________ Argh!! Nothing I lay my hands on works! |

I think you don't need to clone it that many time. 4 to 6 times should be sufficient. A white blob, you say? Seems to me you're not using a transparent texture here... |

I have now tried various other things with that tree texture. Nothing works! My model is always just too transparent (more like a ghost than a tree!) _________________ Argh!! Nothing I lay my hands on works! |

lol that is really to much
the trees you see here that i made are actually rectangles cloned 3 times rotating each 120 degrees. then clone those tree rectangles and move them a little higer and rotate them so that they are between the rectangles in the first layer and do this about 5 times and voila [/img] |

the texture I'm using is the TGA one mentioned earlier on this thread, converted to JPEG so it is compatible with DeleD Lite. _________________ Argh!! Nothing I lay my hands on works! |

did you set the texture to modulate or alphablend? |
