|
|
Is there a way to rotate an object by exactly 90 degrees?
Is there a way to move an object to a certain location by entering the x,y,z coords?
Is there a way to snap a rotation to the grid?
Thanks. |

select your object, click on "rotate" and fill in 90 in the x,y or z

you can't enter a location but you can enter how much you want it to move from that point in the x,y and z coord.

just make sure you have F8 set(snap to grid) and the object will automatically snap to the grid. |

Thanks, that did the trick.

Damnit.. That's an important missing function.

It does snap the object but it doesn't snap the rotation of it. |

You can type a number in the bottom box, and use CTRL to snap your rotation by a degree, like 15. So you only rotate in 15 degree increments. _________________

Thanks.. it's too bad that the most important function I was looking for is not available |

I don't even understand the concept of snapping a rotation to a grid? _________________

you can't enter a location but you can enter how much you want it to move from that point in the x,y and z coord.
|
Why Not? Movement to a fixed, absolute coordinate is almost a requirement, and should be relatively easy to do. I consider this a critical addition. |

I'll implement it for the 1.8 release.
Edit: I've implemented this for the upcoming 1.72 release. You will be able to move primitives and vertices to a fixed coordinate in that version. |

Fantastic...
now about those snaps...
If you have an object (not a vertice) that you have specificed should be 10 units by 13 and you have your grid set to 5, your object just became 10x15....
IMO this is wrong. the origin should snap the object to the grid, but the dimensions of the objects should never change. the only time ALL vertices shoule snap to the grid is if you have grid turned on in vertice mode. |

That's because a cube defaults to vertex mode. Turn on center snapping for that object and make it 10x13, and it will do just like you said. _________________
