It's just a small thing, but handy nonetheless.

edit:
And also, is there a reason I have to hold shift to select an object(other than the obvious 'that's how it was coded' Laughing )?

This is the only 3d app I have used -other than possibly Blender- that requires this extra step. Is it possible to just click on an object/face/vertex/etc. to select it, while using shift to select multiple items? Not to be an asshole, but I find this very annoying.

Maybe there's an option somewhere that I missed, but if not, could y'all pretty please make one?

Changing the selection mechanism is something big, I think. Not in terms of technical difficulty but if we change that, all users are immediately affected because everybody uses the selection mechanism, obviously.

So... I'd like to know what others think of this. Should we change it into the way warcrest proposes? Should we have more than one way to select stuff?

Not selecting the created objects automatically also fits a purpose. You can create many new objects in a small amount of time without always chosing a new object type after creating one. I see the advantages for autoselection too, though.
What about another F... key? Or a field in the status bar, doubleclick and toggle auto selection with that.

You could still create several objects quickly with autoselect, although obviously, not right on top of each other, as clicking outside the selection in empty space would deselect the currently selected object and begin creating a new object.

What about a tick box in the options menu?

Actually, I think this makes a lot of sense, because it solves an important problem: It makes it hard to accidentally lose your selection.

In general, when working in 3D applications, making your selection is one of the hardest things. Once you have mastered that, most other operations are easier. I think the shift-click actually is better than direct manipulation. Most other 3D apps instead have "lock selection" of some form (like space bar in 3ds Max), which I think is less useful.

Yeah. I'm finding that the more I use DeleD and actually remember that I have to hold shift to select, the more it's just a nuance of the program. I think that, once I get past that particular necessity, my work flow will increase in DeleD.

The only problem I see is working in other programs and switching between styles. I use 3ds Max as well, so when I open that up, I have to unlearn the selection techniques or screw things up there for a minute before I remember to forget.

But I still want an autoselect new object option. Smile
