|
|
Hi,
currently the objects 3rd coordinate is set to the default value specified when placing objects, it would be handy if you could store the bbox of the last selected individual object(no compound selections)
if you edit in the x,y view you choose the min&max z coordinate of the last bbox for object placement.
This would be really appreciated, maybe you could release a tiny patched exe with that feature?

Just out of curiositiy, what do you need this for?
Also, do you know the Clone function? _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

yes i know but you cant clone a polyline can you?
I think that would be very handy and wouldn t influence other features
If I clone I have to select the object first, this way I simply place it somewhere and get what I want without face shifting and such things |

I had to edit the polyline delete vertices and such or insert new ones
with this feature all I had to do is place some new ones, that increases productivity a lot thats the point |

such thing will be implemented in the 1.8 version if i'm not wrong...you will be able to add new vertexes ...if that's what you mean of course.. _________________

Inserting new vertices into a polyline is still more work than simply create a new one with the above mentioned property that the 3rd coordinate will be choosen from the bounding box of the last selected object, so you don t have to scroll back to the origin and move it to its intended position
use one of the radiant editors and create some brushes in various locations, you will like it I am sure. |

I´m having a hard time understanding what you mean. Can you post some pictures perhaps?
Cloning a polyline is perfectly possible though, just use ctrl-c and ctrl-v or space to clone objects. But I´m almost sure that´s not what you´re looking for, are you? |

you create a box with coordinates
A = {min(x',y',z') max(x',y',z')}
BBox = A
now click into x,y plane and create another box with coordinates
Current implementation:
C = {min(x,y,defaultz) max(x,y,defaultz)}
My suggestion
C = {min(x,y,BBox.min.z) max(x,y,BBox.max.z)}
So you create the objects near the current editing location and not somewhere around the default z setting that you can specify when creating a cube
This should of course be implemented for the other primitves(polyline, cylinder,...) as well.
The advantage is you don t have to select other objects just to create a new one right beside it. As for polylines, you have to clone and edit their topology which is more work than creating them from scratch with the right third coordinate extracted from the BBox of the last selected object |

I think this is a great request.
Suppose I create a box in the X/Y plane. I then scale that box along the Z axis, because it was created with the wrong "default" height value.
The next box I create should have the same height as the previous box, AFTER scaling -- that's a much better default than some arbitrary default that I type into a settings dialog somewhere. |

That won't work too well.
Say you need 3 boxes of differing heights. You make one, then next one will still need to be resized. I like the way it is now. If I need a set of boxes (or whatever) that are larger than the default size, I just change the size in the inspector. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

Well, I think we could create a feature that enables you to use both methods. Some enable/disable automatic propertion adjustment or something like that. I like the idea and it should be that hard to implement either (time issue): adding it to our list. |

Trucker: in your use case, you have to re-scale the boxes no matter what. Thus, the change suggested in this thread doesn't change that -- but it would make life easier for certain other use cases. |

in his case he only has to scale the first box appropriately
just create the 2nd and 3rd box from a side view
3 boxes with different height
create 1st box in top view adjust its height
create 2nd and 3rd box in the side/right view and adjust the height during creation of the box,
even if your scales differ in 2 dimensions, its still faster to work with hotkeys and scale them appropriately than typing in values into an edit field |
