I've noticed that DeleD uses a ton of CPU... I have it minimized right now and it's taking almost 97%. Is this a known issue, normal, or is there something amiss? I'm just doing basic learing - dropping a few primatives here and there and applying textures to see how it all lines up etc. |

It always seemed to me that it kept updating regarldess if it was the active window or not. This is very easy to work around, just need to modify the main loop to not do anything if the app isn't active. The WM_ACTIVATE:(I think that's what it's called) message handles that, both for clikcing out of the window, and minimizing.
Then again, I dunno how delphi programs handle Windows messages. |

This actually was the case in earlier versions of DeleD (like 0.85 for example) but as of 0.90, this is fixed. At least, when I have DeleD minimized or when I'm not doing anything, the Windows Taskmanager says the DeleD proces has 0% cpu. This is not the case on your system? |

I'm glad you mentioned that... Since I'm evaluating it for use with Torque, Dirkk gave me the 0.863 version that his plugin works with and that's the one that does the CPU hogging.
However, with the latest 0.91version, my laptop sometimes locks (complete power off required to recover) immediately when launching DeleD. Other times, it runs perfectly fine. It's a Dell Latitude D600, 512MB RAM, 1.6GHz P4, 32MB Radeon 9000.
I can play Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 on it with respectable frame rates and no lockups . I was SO happy when I found that out.
In contrast, my 1GHz PIII, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB system (the one I'm mainly using for the Torque and DelEd use) choked hardcore on Doom 3, but has no problem with Half-Life 2 or DeleD.
Any ideas there? |
