As an experiment, we are giving a slightly different spin to the Everybody Models concept this time...

As our faithful users might have noticed, while DeleD has been evolving over the years, our prefabs are mostly still the same ancient quick doodles that came with the very first DeleD releases. The time has come to do something about that. We'd like to ask the DeleD community to contribute to their modeler and help us design some new prefabs!

First up are the tower prefabs. Our current three prefabs in these category are bigtower.dpf, smalltower.dpf and tower.dpf

As you can see, they are in dire need of an update. And there is no reason why we couldn't have, say, 6 different tower prefabs as opposed to the current 3. So please, ladies and gentlemen, show us your tallest/strongest/spookiest/most crooked/twisted/colorful/etc tower models! Let's get creative, discuss, and have fun... The nicest ones will be included with the DeleD distributions (with full credits of course).

Rules:
1. When entering this particular Everbody Models, you should be ok with us potentially distributing your entry with future DeleD releases, and with an unknown number of people using your prefab in their scenes. If not, you are still welcome to join the fun, but please state explicitly that you do not want us to distribute your entry.
2. When using 3rd party textures, make sure they can be freely distributed.
3. As always, post your screenshots in this thread. We'll ask you to provide your .dxs or .dpf once the Everybody Models is over.
4. Feel absolutely free to enter with more than one prefab design.

Guidelines:
1. A Prefabs is a single, textured primitive.
2. Prefabs shouldn't use more than a couple of textures (you don't want to force people using the prefab to include dozens of extra textures in their scene).
3. Prefabs shouldn't have too high a polycount. Tens of thousands of polygons for a single prefab is too much.
4. Prefabs should be read-to-use in any scene, so they shouldn't have missing parts/holes/glitches/etc.

p.s. If this experiment doesn't work out, we'll probably get a professional modeler to do some prefabs for us at some point. However, that might still take a while, and we figured the community (you guys) would like to get involved... We think it could be awesome!

Oh, I'm sure this won't be necessary.

If I only had time

Exams are over in three weeks, so I'll give it a try then.

Well I think I'm in but, could the EM last longer than February the 15th? Laughing
Just a little bit, so I can find some time between the Elementrix's compo and this Very Happy

here's mine: It needs alot more nice details and some cool texture, I'll keep you guy's updated Wink

poly count: 752 (and most parts are already triangulated so ready for ingame use without getting alot more poly's)

I could also remove the entrance if you guy's like that more?

Ha, glad to see you guys are as enthousiastic about the whole idea as we are! And no, there is no real time limit, we'll probably want to start adding the new prefabs somewhere around 1.8x (so after 1.80), so there will be plenty of time. Oh, and there is no reason why we shouldn't decide to add even more prefabs after we select an initial batch. Towers are fun!

Elementrix: Excellent kick-off there! I'm not too sure about the entrance either, but let's see what the folks-with-modeling-skills (that is, not me) have to say about it!

I really like the top of elementrix's tower but the bottom looks a bit tall, not really solid, and towers are naturally stronger / thicker. Maybe add some supports at the sides and adding more details onto the walls.

well, it's more that at the sides you could add defense walls.... (this is an entrance)

The real joke is that "death - live" are not proper opposites.

Anyway, all those towers look cool. I agree on the need for a firmer base in the first tower, as well. Would be cool to see them with textures on, too! Ideally, you could create a number of material textures that were interchangeable, so you could "skin" the towers as different looks.

Here's my one, it's basically a clocktower. Needs a lot of Optimation, the arches have at the moment too much segments.
