Hi, I do understand that deled has a tool to optimize. I maybe wrong but, its job is to make the poly. size smaller by joing togather polys?
When I use it, it seems to crash or hang when I use it on like a big objects like stairways or more complexes objects. Is this normal or is it just taking its time to do its thing? |

From experience the Optimize tool can also mess things up.. you should not use it on complex objects, it fixes objects with unnecessary polygons and changes polygonal order so it will look and be more correct.
If you choose to use it always check if your object looks ok.
You can also split an object into several parts and use the tool on a part of a model. |

The Optimize tool is meant to be used on more complex models to make their geometry more "clean". It does so by removing unneeded vertices and joining polygons whereever possible. It does not retain UV coordinates at this time. It can, depending on the complexity of the object, remove much unneeded geometry (more than 30% is no exception).
If used on a complex model, this process can take quite some time. In rare cases, it might hang up DeleD. If this happens, I would definately take a look at the model to see if I can use it to improve the Optimize command.
Another tip would be to use Optimize often and early in modeling your object. If you wait until the object has become very complex already, Optimize will need a lot more time to do its job and might not be able to complete.
I advise you to experiment with Optimize on, for example, CSG'd objects. You'll see its benefits in notime. |

When I use the tool on very complex models the models often get messed up, weird edges appear with weird polygons in weird positions without me being able to get rid of them
I mean normal proper built complex objects. |

I would definately like to take a look at one of those models. Could you send one to jeroen at delgine dot com? That would be great. |

It would be cool if we could use the optimize tool in the "polygon mode" So you can optimize only the parts that you want.
EDIT: ow and it's my 600th post _________________ Chickens RULE | www.elementrix.nl

Sure, I'll get back from work and I'll send a sample as soon as I'm home

Currently I'm extracting the things I want to optimize so you can sort of do that, however, it would be nice if there was an easier way.
And congrats.. |

yeah I also extract things I want too optimize, but sometimes that a hell of a job (with huge objects) _________________ Chickens RULE | www.elementrix.nl |

So, i'm not that only one ^^: Yea, with huge objects I have to go in and extract things I want to optimize too or else it will either hang or take forever (I do understand it taking some time just hate not knowing if its hanging or working) |
