hey guys Smile me again
im a little stuck and im struggle to figure it out.

im trying to do the roof of a Japanese temple but not matter what i try i just cant seem to get that curve working for me.

has any one any advice on the best way or a way that worked for you to get
the Japanese/oriental style roof.

if any one has that roof done maybe you could post a screen shot of the polys on it for me to learn from.

if nobody else does i send you tomorrow
i forget my pas of imageshack =[
and because it logs on automaticly at my dads place thats the only place i can post pics..
what i did is just use a cube and insest the uper polygon
then move the new inner polygon op and do that multiple times
if the size isnt right you can change it in ''vertex'' mode and then ''scale''

He means the Subdivide properties for creating a cube. Play with them and you'll see what you can do with them. Dave used those to create a cube with additional polygons. He then moved a top polygon slightly upwards and the vertices in the four corners too. Then he used the Smooth command. Or at least, that's how I think he did it. Wink

although that is very bad topology, you could get a better likeness with much less poly's like this:

You should always try to create your object with very few polygons if you do it for games. For nice images you can go crazy:)

It's a cube extruded and scaled one by one and with one subdivisions along the X and Z axis.

I noticed the grid over all your models, do you see this all the time when modelling? It shouldn't be there and I guess it's pretty annoying, it has something to do with your video card, maybe try to update your drivers.

You should also connect the vertex at the very corner of each roof with the vertex in the corners of the house Wink Because DeleD now doesn't know which way it should triangulate.

(Computers mostly only read in triangles and that is why you should always triangulate such polygons by hand. Otherwise your roof might get screwed up when exporting)

ok then I guess it doesn't really matter that much. I also edited my previous reply a bit, check the extra part Wink

EDIT: what DeleD crashes after each screenshot:O. Think of buying a non- on-board graphics card (if you have the money left) onboards are evil for modelling Smile

DeleD uses memory of the graphics card to create screenshots (they're rendered to a buffer on the graphics cards memory first before being written to a file as far as I can remember). Getting a very good videocard with lots of mem would be ideal. Wink
