I've made a fancy fence prefab and thought i'd share it with you.
It's available here with an explination of what's included and how to use it.
Hope you enjoy as I strive to get better at modeling.
and...for the obglitory picture.... (click on it for a larger view)
Disclaimer: I don't texture prefabs as my folder structure and yours may differ. Plus, you may want a different texture on it than I would. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

It's way too high poly for anyone to use it. The pole's cylinder base shouldn't have more than ~12 sides, 6 would probably suffice too. _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

It might be a bit high-poly but I do like the appearance of it. It's a nice model! _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

Thanks for the comments. I know it's high poly. It started out as something else, but looked like a fence post topper, so decided to change course and make a fancy fence instead. The prefab was super easy to make, so it would make a good reference model if nothing else. I started to make the actual posts square, but it didnt look right.
The fence as shown is only 1308 polys, so it could be used in an area where you had buildings that were super low poly.
At any rate, I'm glad you liked it. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

I took your advice and made the posts low poly. (used 12 sided cylendars) They came out looking almost as good as the original.
Here's the stats:
High poly fence as seen in the original screenshot above = 1308 polys
Low poly fence as seen below = 662 (big difference)
The zip file in the first post has been updated with the new low poly post along side the high poly one.
edit to add: the rails and boards were already low poly to begin with, so there was nothing to change there. (can't get much less polys with a straight box) and the boards were optimized. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

662 poly or 662 triangles? That's still fairly high for what is generally a background object |

The lowpoly model still looks rather well. I wonder if it could be done with fewer polygons. Are you up for a challenge, Trucker? I bet you can get it under 450 and still make it look good! _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

I'll take your 450 and beat it down to 440.
Now, to thwart any misunderstanding...
The prefab zip incluces several parts.
3 posts
high=552 polies (24 sided)
med=220 polies (12 sided)
low=146 polies (8 sided) ( I really don't like this one)
1 rail at 6 polies
1 fence board at 34 polies
The numbers I've been giving were for what was shown in the pictures.
