Hey guys

This will be one of the first DeleD 2.0 tutorials. Cool It explains how to model a mech, make a skeleton for it and how to make it move!

I've just finished the first part. It can be done in DeleD 1.x (except for the bridge tool, you'll have to work around that one).

You can check the first part here:

http://www.delgine.com/wiki/index.php/Tutorial:_Modelling_a_mech_part1

Hope you guy's like it. Smile

Excellent work! Very Happy I can't wait to see the animation tutorial for this one.

I'll release my own tutorial on basic animation (animating a lamp) soon too. Smile

Nice Tutorial. Looking forward to seeing more. You could use my bridge plugin in Deled 1.x. Bit faster than doing manualy.

Good work! Very Happy I better release my Basic Tutorial on animation a.s.a.p. Wink

Tip: perhaps you can use a different color for the geometry. The dark blue isn't very much visible against a black background.

Do note that we're still working on the rendering of joints and bones. You might want to change your pictures when 2.0 comes out. It's not that important, of course, but I wanted you to know. All in all, good job!

Yes, I use a different color scheme but that's because of my visual impairement. I rather have a big contrast between selected and non-select than between non-selected and background. I hope that it doesn't confuse many people. Confused

Hmmm.. I hope that that is not neccesary. I'd rather focus on part 3. Smile
If they're very big changes, I might do it, because there's only a small ammount of picture with joints on them.

I've released the last part of my tutorial series. I thought it would be best if my series were finished before the 2.0 release. Hope you guys like it. Wink

In case you didn't know. The second part of my tutorial links to the last part so there is no need for me to post another URL.

Excellent!

Do you have the dxs file available too? Would be nice to play around with it! Smile

I'm thinking about an animation contest... "The DeleD 2.0 Creating an Animated Mech Contest"...

lol I cant seem to get it, not sure cus i'm using the free one or not, but it seems when I get the joints setup and then go to try and assign them it seems to not work, maybe i'm doing it wrong, but from both your tuts. it seems its done auto magicaly some how with the objects, so idk.... can you expand or show more pics some how? Cus when I go to Assign, I click the root then I go to click the object and nothing happens (after I press ok)

Hmm... that's very weird. Does the object change color indicating that it's assigned? Please bare in mind that after assigning objects to joints, they will not follow them. You must also assign the vertices (but I explained that in my tut allready).

This is what i do:
> Go to skeleton mode
> Go to assign
> Make sure "Joints" is selected
> Select your joint
> Make sure "Primitives" is selected
> Select your primitive now
> Click OK
> Your object color should change indicating it's assigned
> Select "Vertices"
> Select some vertices
> Click OK

Now the vertices should follow your joint as it moves. Wink

Did you check Jeroen's tutorial on animation? It's a little more basic and every step is carefully explained. Smile

Here it is:
http://www.delgine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3703

Hope this helps;)

Yea I been following both, just can't seem to get it to work. No, the object doesn't change color nor does it do anything else. I'm using the defult colors, mostly witch seem sorta to light some times, but I can tell I have the join selected.
> Select your primitive now
> Click OK
> Your object color should change indicating it's assigned
> Select "Vertices"
See, from that it seems like your doing auto magicly some how, shouldnt you have to click the object you want to assign to it?

Did you see the movie I made about animating the lamp? It's available here. It shows how things work just as they are described in the tuts, so take a look and tell us if that helped you. Smile
