Making trees is a painful process, at least for me. You could start with sticking some rotated cylinders on top of that trunk, which will probably look more or less bad. You can also edit the tree on a low poly stage and then smooth the whole thing, which will give you a nice organic look if you do it right.
For the leaves, you should create a leaf texture with an alpha layer and create three intersecting rectangles so it will be visible from all directions (kind of like this: http://www.delgine.com/software/deled/tutorials/images/modelingCandleLight/star.jpg) and then copy it all over the top of the tree.

Tree making is easy when you got some practice and understand how trees grow. I also use this http://ngplant.sourceforge.net/ alot, you can then generate different versions of trees in a few clicks.
However, making your own trees is a essential skill so keep going |

Creating a tree really is'nt very hard to do, I think of it as a branched bolt of lightning with a bunch of transparent plains for leaves. But even then, If your not the type to want to model this type of object there are programs that create nice quality trees that are royalty free for a rather cheap price.
But in the end, it is a good idea to learn to create your own as you customize and animate them the way you want them. seeing that you can animate with deled now, it would be a good project to have fun with. |

That is a very simple but nice looking tree. You could definitely use that for a certoon game/scene.
And please, stop editing your first post. It's better to just add a new post to a thread. It makes more sense. |

Thanks Chronozphere for the comment about my tree. I should of edited my first post to say this just for you Chronozphere.
***SPOILER ALERT***
The tree was made out of three cylinders and three spheres if you couldn't figure it out on your own. _________________ I can spell DeleD BACKWARDS!

Yea I checked to see how many polygons were in it and the sphere I think had 1024. But the cylinders are just normal there's no difference to them. _________________ I can spell DeleD BACKWARDS!

That's a lot better than the tree I made but if it's not too much trouble can you send me that texture you used to make the tree branches? _________________ I can spell DeleD BACKWARDS!

It is probably just as easy to make one on your own. Just open any paint program that can make transparent textures. If you don't already have one other than MS PAINT, You can always just do a search and try out.....Gimp2 which is what I use, it is freeware. there's Paint.Net which is also freeware and works a lot like photoshop. Or there are other's if they are not already enough. Just do a general search to find them.
But it is very simple to do, just create a new texture with transparency, draw a couple lines for branches and use a scatter type brush and just dab a couple different shades of green to represent the leaves. It should take no more than a couple minutes to create one. |

sorry but as I made these textures myself for my own game I don't really like spreading them out
it's fairly easy and you won't learn anything if I just give them to you. _________________ Chickens RULE | www.elementrix.nl |

elementrix: I love the way you do trees, consider I have just learned that technique from you, it is really nice. I will use it in some tree models. usually, I use a dynamic tree generator, and cut it down, but that is very eloquent, I will be experimenting with several trees that way, already a fern or palm comes to mind. thank you! _________________ quid quid latine dictum sit
