Hey, whats the point of using Triangulate? Wouldn't it be better to use some sorta other way like a octTree or am I miss looking at this? |

Triangulate is usefull for some people who want to use their models in a video-game and want to make sure that the geometry is correct. By triangulating, you will split up all polygons into triangles which makes the data easier to process and render by a game-engine.
If you don't triangulate you can end up with concave or non-planar polygons. These things are harder to handle for an engine.
Triangulating is not something a modeller wants to do while he is working. It's something that is done when the model is about to be exported.
Hope this makes any sense. |

What's an octree in your opinion? Afaik, it's just a recursive subdivision of the scene into eight cubes, where those cubes are also aubsivided if it contains parts of the scene, etc. Something completely different then triangulating, or is it? _________________ Behold! There is indeed a distinct difference between triangulation and octtrees. While triangulation is purely a "geometry" operation, an octtree is a "space-partitioning" structure.
Check em both on wikipedia and you'll see the difference. Sorry couldn't post the URL's because the forum doesn't like URL's with parenthesis etc..
Hope this helps. |

Alright, ty for the help. I am a little busy working on most of our main prodject and someone just ask why dont we use the octree we saw a while back. I wasnt sure how it work for say or even the need, but I saw that triangulation and that octree look the same in a way so just wasnt sure. |
