|
|
To make downloading the DeleD binaries a convenient one-click action, we host them here on DeleD (as well as on SourceForge.net). The large majority of downloads is trough the main site.
Nothing wrong there, but soon we'll be taking some action to draw additional developers to the project. Now imagine a new developer learning about the project, visiting the project pages on sourceforge, and seeing there that the files only had a couple of hundreds of downloads, and has a corresponding low ranking (SF.net ranks projects based on #downloads)... that might put them off before even getting started.
Opinions, please? |

I think we should use sourceforge. It's not that hard for new users to download it from there.
We could also use a nice trick: Just link to the following URL from our delgine page. It will directly start the download and increase the SF counter AFAIK.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/deled/files/deledcesetup.exe/download |

Ah, I was under the impression that direct linking didn't work, but it looks like it works just fine... excellent!
That takes away the biggest part of my worries, that people would click, be teleported to a site that doesn't mean anything to them (you wouldn't believe how many non-devs never heared of sourceforge), and then don't bother to figure out where to click (even though there is a shiny button, SF also has a lot of fuzz on the screen.
Will modify the download links immediately... \o/ |

Download links now point to sourceforge. The bad news is the sourceforge downloads wouldn't auto-start for me on IE for a while, and I remember having similar issues with other SF.net hosted downloads in the past (i.e. autoselected mirrors not responding at all).
Ah well, it has been done know, we'll re-evaluate things when/if complaints start dripping in... till then I'll assume things are fine this way... |

Yes, that seems to have worked nicely. Of course the totals needs to increase, but at least the sourceforge stats now represent a significant portion of actual downloads.
