I usually am in the deled IRC chat room daily, alongside with Fletcher. It tends to get boring without a lot of people stopping by though |

Sorry Paul,
Jeroen does it! It's Leuchtturm, and he points down the river towards the ocean bay and the upcoming harbour.
So - Congratulation, Jeroen. Now please tell me, what kind of object you want to see here modelled with DeleD. |
No worries Harper
Congratulations to Starnick and jeroen
@Starnick: something Egyptian would look great I reckon LOL
cheers,

Starnick!
My heaviest jobs is creating characters, and noting else your Anubis-statue is.
At my "Hero_3" i worked over 3 months, and now i have to do nearly the same job
in 2 weeks - but i try:
Here is a first glimpse on an untextured dark green marble statue. It will get
some golden equipment and clothing, but i cannot say if it will be before the
easter-weekend. Please be patient. |

|

Hi folks,
how can i make a tutorial of "Making Anubis"? What's the most interesting part of this creation?
I started with a cube, my favorite prim. Dividing it several times with (always in the early phases)
grid-snapping "on", because it produces very clean geometry.
Moving things, until i get a raw shape of the head, with approximately proportions. Also for reducing work,
i only model one half of the head, duplicating and mirroring for checking the overall look.
This is why i asked for a editing-mode called symmetry, that makes these steps continously while
working on the model.
Next step was
1.) smoothing the ears. Having concave areas that must be smoothed is a job for the Doo-Sabin-Wonder.
Doing this by hand (see my first ear-model) can only frustrate.
Second i split head and (what's the name for that head-wear?)
by applying 2 textures. So i can easily select those 2 groups of polys in the UV-window with Ctrl-A.
Next i generated some rough 8-sided cylinders to form the body, an arm and a leg.
Then i select some polys and smoothed them; never the whole object to prevent crucial edges.
Some tiny polys that will hard to uv-map and to keep their count as low as possible,
i select several neighboring polys, delete them and, after picking
the outlinig vertices, refill them. (I asked for this "refill"-
feature in the forum and have shown it's usfulness in my sword-tutorial...)
That's the state of my Anubis until now.
What follow is some finetuning, gathering some appropiate textures and the job to uv-map all those irregulars.
Have i told any useful hints? Or have i only proved that with some time to invest and some endurance in modelling you can
achieve nearly all, using DeleD ?

I think you will benefit a LOT from the new Vertex Insert functionality when creating characters like that. _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

To Jeroen:
Even if i only seldom use vertex inset, i love your program. Nearly i would say it's a new dimension of my life as an artist.
And to Starnick: Do you are engaged in a a project, that has to do with ancient egypt?

As i said, the textured version of Anubis will take some time.
I just made a typical egytian eye model, to use it on the statue.
If someone find it useful, here is the DPS for download:

Have fun - with DeleD! |
