Hi folks,
how can i make a tutorial of "Making Anubis"? What's the most interesting part of this creation?
I started with a cube, my favorite prim. Dividing it several times with (always in the early phases)
grid-snapping "on", because it produces very clean geometry.
Moving things, until i get a raw shape of the head, with approximately proportions. Also for reducing work,
i only model one half of the head, duplicating and mirroring for checking the overall look.
This is why i asked for a editing-mode called symmetry, that makes these steps continously while
working on the model.

Next step was
1.) smoothing the ears. Having concave areas that must be smoothed is a job for the Doo-Sabin-Wonder.
Doing this by hand (see my first ear-model) can only frustrate.

Second i split head and (what's the name for that head-wear?)
by applying 2 textures. So i can easily select those 2 groups of polys in the UV-window with Ctrl-A.

Next i generated some rough 8-sided cylinders to form the body, an arm and a leg.

Then i select some polys and smoothed them; never the whole object to prevent crucial edges.
Some tiny polys that will hard to uv-map and to keep their count as low as possible,
i select several neighboring polys, delete them and, after picking
the outlinig vertices, refill them. (I asked for this "refill"-
feature in the forum and have shown it's usfulness in my sword-tutorial...)

That's the state of my Anubis until now.
What follow is some finetuning, gathering some appropiate textures and the job to uv-map all those irregulars.
Have i told any useful hints? Or have i only proved that with some time to invest and some endurance in modelling you can
achieve nearly all, using DeleD ?

could you use something like camstudio and make a video of the process?

Sorry, no. This video would be boring, about 20 hours long, eh?
It's not a trick, it's a lot of work. For me it's fun, i recreate while creating things like this.
But it takes the time it takes.

You funny folks!
1. to Chrono:
This is the picture of the model i have to remake.
2. to AWM:
Look at "his" clothes. Even the texturing of my "Meynis"-people is an awful hunting of textures, this is even harder...

On the occasion of discussion on textures, I gladly offer my collection of textures to the community. Here is the download link (518MB).

http://www.wb4u.gr/temp/Textures.zip

I hope they will be useful to all DeleD modelers.

PS: Please take into account that the link will be not valid forever due to space cost

I have a quote for you 'It's not a trick, it's a lot of work.' I did trawl that link I gave you, took me about an hour to go through the lot, I'm sure you can do it much faster as you have the eye for what you are looking for. Smile

Thanks for the link and the textures.. any chance you have them in groups? I'm thinking, 5 hours of downloading, to discover I already have 75% of the textures, is a waste of bandwidth.
