|
|
I started learning to use DeleD in Feb 2010.
I recently set myself a goal to try and help my modelling skills. I acquired some pictures of modelled houses from the internet and set out to create my own using DeleD.
My first model was a straight forward box house.

My second model was a little more complicated. I used the split command to insert the extra polygons for the windows and doors. The roof was extruded and this required using the UV Editor to correct the distortions. Again the window frames are polygons (used split command) not textures. Some of the textures for this model came from CG-Textures (http://www.cgtextures.com/)

Looking at those couple of steps, you are well on your way to creating excellent models..
You have mastered the UV mapping, which thwarts quite a lot of people. Scaling, Rotating and Moving is an esential skill that you have grasped _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.

I agree. Looking good, but I think you have your images reversed.
(that be, your links point to the wrong pic.) _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

Thanks for the supportive comments.
Its thanks to the forum members that I have got as far as I have, with all your helpful feedback to my questions, so thanks for that.
Up to now my modelling has been mainly basic of vehicles, tanks, trucks, etc., so buildings (and textures) is new territory for me.
My eventual aim is to get back to creating games and especially VR with the 3D Rad game creator (useless at C++ programming).
So the more practice the better I get, hopefully

My latest modelling attempt took me four evenings (about 8-9 hours).

This model used all what I have learnt so far, so was good practice.
I now appreciate how time consuming texturing a model is

I know the feeling... that's why I started working on NashaUV one year ago. |

Presently working on my most complicated model yet a Church Lychgate, been working on it for the last four evenings (not finished yet).

I plan also to animate this model (hoping to have opening / closing gates), which will be my first steps into animation

The Church Lychgate is finished, took just under a week to complete (several hours each night).
I have given it its own page with pictures of how it was made:

It was fun making it and good practice using DeleD

At the moment I am trying to get used to modelling with DeleD.
Once I am comfortable with what I am doing (know what I am doing) then I will move on to the other features.
There are still modelling tools I have not used yet so it's a long learning curve.
I have had a play around with lighting but don't really know how to create anything stunning .... still blurry on how it all works
I am working my way through the tutorials and picking it up slowly as I go, but it all takes time

The project is coming along very nicely
When I first started making 3D models, and using DeleD from a shortlist of lots of programmes available, I found DeleD the most intuitive to give me workflows, to acheiving working models. The shortlist has become very small now, DeleD is my main workhorse.
I began by making things, not by choosing a particular subject, but a tool. I simply created simple objects like cubes and worked the tool on it, then changed to other shapes to see the results. Working through the tools is a way of gaining familiarity and confidence. Then move on to combining tools.
I would say the next most important thing to do is gathering your textures for each project. Nothing worse than having to do it on the fly.
I see you are already at that stage, which means you will grow in abilities very quickly and start having some serious fun _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.
