These are probably some silly questions, but being new to DeleD I am hoping I can be forgiven. I have been looking through the tutorials, and have not been able to figure these questions out.

1) How do you manipulate the individual vertices of a polyline in DeleD?

2) How do you extrude a poly line in DeleD?

3) How is sizing done in DeleD? Do I just build my models so that they look right and then scale them when I import them into my computer programs? or do can I actually set an x units = x inches. I noticed that DeleD does not seem to have the ability to use decimals.

Hi there and welcome! Smile

1. Create your object. Goto Vertex mode. Select vertices by using Shift+leftmouse. Use tools on the selected vertices.

2. Create your polyline. Goto Polygon mode. Select the polygon(s) by using Shift+leftmouse. Use the Extrude tool in any view by dragging the mouse.

3. A unit is a generic "thing". It's up to the computer program in which models are used to deal with actual measurements like inches. Many exporters have a scale option, btw, so you can build in whatever scale you want in DeleD and have it exported to some other scale.

Hope this helps! Smile

When I look at the grid defaults, they remind me of pixel settings. That is not to say they must remain that way, they could represent inches, even miles. You set them to whatever you want/need. If you need inches, just set the grid to whatever you need a inch to represent.

The difficulty may come, should someone else use your models and mix them with others that have been created in a different denomination. However, as long as a door is a door, and are represented by a fixed size/scale formula of yours, then they can then match up your models. It is if you should swap about your scales when creating, its a problem.

The whole measuring thing in all platforms, does in fact lend itself better for decimal than feet/inches. When was the last time you needed to work in tolerances of 0.000001 of an inch? If your measure unit is a yard, then the decimal places will work against you should the need arise to work a measurement at say 1 yard, 11 and 3/16ths of an inch, when your units are a yard. If it is a meter, or centimeter, then it works for you.

Actually since I work in the Aerospace industry we use millionths of an inch fairly often...but I get your point, and had the feeling that's how it works.

You guys are totally awesome! Thanks for your help! Im working on an MMORPG for me and my friends using the Dark GDK and C++ and needed something to build models in.

Again thanks!

OK so by following your instrucions I now understand why I couldnt move anything, ie vertices, in my earlier attempts. Basically you need to select the object/vertice to move with shift-leftclick after you enter your mode. Is that correct?

So I made a triangle in my side view, and then extruded it in the top view so that it made a sort of ramp, only when in the 3D view, the new side was open. So by selecting the new vertices and clicking Fill, in the vertice menu, it made a new side. And now I have a ramp!

Intersting how something so simple can be so much fun.

Millionths of an inch? Good God, even as an American I don't understand why you just don't use the metric system at that scale...

Well, we use inches because the english is the standard for aviation world wide. Its an FAA thing.

For me personally, I stick with feet, inches, etc, more out of pride than anything else. Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the metric system, but the english system is something specific to us as Americans. I just like it.

If it makes anybody feel better, all of my measuring tapes have both metric and english units. Very Happy

Actually, you have this the wrong way round... The 'English' of feet and inches orginated from England. Back in the late sixties, the United Kingdom changed to metric. I remember distinctly as I was about to take my A levels in Technical Drawing, it was all in feet and inches, then just before the exams, they changed to metrication to align ourselves with the Americans, who were using metric and drawing in the 1st Angle. 2 years later, America changed to 3rd Angle and feet and inches...
