To get familiar with DeleD's internal structure before I start the development of the new plugin-interface I decided to add a little feature which I found nice to have: Selection-Preview.

What's that? If you select vertices or edges and so on, you draw a rectangle over those elements you like to select. But you never see what is really going to be selected until you release the mouse-button. No big deal for just an easy selection but if selections get more complicated (with adds) it's easy to do the wrong thing and you have start selecting again. Selection-Preview shows you what will happen, in real-time. This is communicated to you by the use of another 2 highlight-colors: green and red. Any element that is going to be added to the actual selection is painted in green, the ones that are going to be deselected are painted in red, elements that stay selected/unselected stay in the same color. This feature also reacts accordingly corresponding to the used shift- and ctrl-keys. After selection is done any element is painted in the color you are used to, again.

I have this feature already working for vertices and edges and I'm going to implement it also for all other elements. If people are interested in this feature and find it useful I would be happy to contribute it to the repository.

If you want to try it, I have a ready-compiled deled.exe online. Get it from: http://array51.com/static/DeleD_CE/SelectionPreview/deled.exe. You just have to copy it over your existing deled.exe - but be sure to backup the original one.

Have phun!

Chrisu.

For someone who's never coded in Delphi before (as I understand it), you're catching on fast! Very Happy

Great new function. I'm sure lots of people will find this useful. Keep up the good work!

I've just tried the new selection preview function and have to say, excellent... with one proviso... when I shut down DeleD, the dialogue box is in German (I think, Ja, Nein etc). I'd like my English back please Very Happy

Glad that you like the feature. What renders me a little confused is the localization-problem you mentioned. I've compiled this binary on an English localized Win7 but using an "as it seems" German localized Delphi7. Don't ask me why this circumstances affect the localization of the generated executable. Shocked
If someone has an idea let me know.

Cheers,
Chrisu.
