Anyone testing/working with Unity 3D? Seems to be an engine with an editor worth to take a closer look on? I try to convert my work to this. |

I've used Unity 3D, but their licensing is quite restrictive and they want 25% of revenue you generate.
The scene manager allows very deep control over every element. For instance, if you bring in a model with multiple meshes, it will allow you to control almost every aspect of each mesh. Whilst for some this may sound great, for the average artistic user, its a daunting system to get to grips with.
Its terrain manager is fairly good, assuming you like rolling hills. It has no erosion techniques that can be applied to the terrain maps from within the programme, to my knowledge. I never tried to import a terrain, as I couldn't find out how to.
Over all, its a bit like Unreal engine, but cheaper _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.

Unity is a nice engine. The only thing I found I didn't like was the lisencing. To get the source code is mega $$. and without the source, you are limited as to what you can do. It's easy to get your games on the web with it if you have the money for the right license. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

I found Shiva 3D to be slightly better in some areas. The licensing model is also much better... |

Unity is the best engine in it's class. Very nice design. It all works very well, and it keeps improving.

You don't think they deserve some of the profits for their work? You are partnering with them to create a product. 25% is at the low end of what would be a normal deal like this. It's very fair.
The 25% can end up being much cheaper than hiring the staff to create and maintain an engine of similar functionality. You also save time not having to wait 6 months for someone to churn out an engine before you can start actually making the game.
You get a lot fro Unity, and they ask for very little in return. _________________
