Hello, I seem to be encountering a strange rendering error when I try to smooth a terrain, here is a picture of a grid I made into a sort-of terrain:

and after I try to smooth it:

Any ideas on what I can do? Confused

why hi there. Smile Welcome to these forums!

The best way to make a simple terrain in DeleD is to create a grid and then use the Magnet function on a few of the vertices of the grid. Then smooth it.

About the rendering issue: I've tried the smoothing function myself just now and noticed that the Catmull Clark smoothing is creating new primitives. Is this also the case in your version of DeleD? If so, that might be the cause of rendering issues, as the primitives probably partially overlap. Just an idea...

oh okay, I was moving each vertice using the move tool, maybe that was the problem, thanks Smile btw i was using Doo-Sabin smoothing

Based on the screen shots you put up, you may not have subdivided enough at the beginning. Starting out with a rectangle primitive...

1. Connect (>12 times from both right angles)
2. Use magnet tool (vertex mode)
3. Use smoothing tool

Example:

You may want a quick look at a tutorial I did for making a simple terrain mesh http://www.delgine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4361
