|
|
The major challenge of DeleD, IMO, is exporting animation. As a game developer, I love DeleD, but hate that I can't export animations to use in my game. The animation tool is so easy and, more importantly, quick.
The only solutions are either write a DXS importer for my game (which is fine for me, but doesn't help anyone else) or fix the exporters. Seeing as the MS3D exporter has had this bug since 2009, I decided to download the source, spend an afternoon tracking down Delphi7, spend an evening building a VM of XP...then fix the exporter...then notice it was 3am
Long story short: I have fixed the animation export in the MS3D exporter. But I do not have permission to check it in to sourceforge.
I have emailed paul-jan to get access. But I don't know if these forums are a better avenue to bring attention to this.
This fixes the bug where an animation will play for a number of frames and then freeze for the rest. |

Of course, the only reason why I need Milkshape is to convert to a .X/.FBX with animation.
Obviously, a better solution is to add animation to the .X export which eliminates the need for Milkshape. Which, I may look into at some point. But, this will do for now. |

Now that is excellent news there, MadMikeAU!
Paul-Jan is a bit busy atm so he's not responding immediately, but rest assured that he will grant permissions to add your stuff to sourceforge. I'll ask him to make me administrator too, so I can grant permissions to other coders as well.
When its checked in, we'll make a new version of the plugin available on the website so other users (non-coders) can export their animations as well. We'll mention it in the tutorial and on the website too. Again, excellent news, because exporting animation has been a challenge indeed. Thanks for your work!
Oh btw, sofar, we haven't seen that many animations created by DeleD users. Can you show us some of your animations? _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

Made another fix. The joints now scale by the desired factor when exporting. This was screwing up animations where the scale wasn't 1.
Updated svn. |

Thanks. I'll try it out as soon as I get done with my last final for the semester. I should be able to export animation with DeleD->Ultimate Unwrap 3d->Collada or B3D now. |

@John: are you saying that Ultimate Unwrap is able to read DXS files? Afaik Ultimate Unwrap is used for skinning purposes, right? How do animations fit in? _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

No. Ultimate Unwrap has an import plugin that will read MS3D files. It also has export plugins for Collada and B3D. Ultimate Unwrap can play animations in the tool as well.
So in theory I should be able to make the geometry and animations in DeleD, export it as an MS3D file, import that into Ultimate Unwrap, do the UV mapping, then export the whole thing to Collada or B3D for use in a game engine. |

That sounds really good there John. Let us know if this works. If it does, I'll post it in this sticky post too. It's important to let people know how to get animations out of DeleD. _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |
