|
|
I'm part of a four person team in my senior project class...we are writing a VERY simple (and rather crude) turned-based economic strategy game for the MS Imagine Cup competition. Unfortunately a full 3D game is out of our reach (only 1 month development time )...so the maps are going to be based on 64x64 tiles. I am going to be using DeleD to model buildings and other objects (trees and such) for the game. Basically the chain right now is:
Make object in DeleD->Export to B3D Format->Render the object using Blitz 3D->capture the Front Buffer and save to bitmap->Edit using Paint.NET and GIMP
So far it is proving rather difficult to shoehorn all of that into a 64x64 PNG file, but I'm trying. Just wanted to keep you guys in the loop. |

Sounds like a challenge. 64x64 is rather small. When you have some results, I'd love to see them here. _________________ Check out Figuro, our online 3D app! More powerful 3D tools for free. |

This is what I have so far. I know it kind of sucks be I am really crunched for time right now. The 256x256 images will pop up when the user clicks on the smaller 64x64 image. The mountain tile, tree tile, and both buildings were made in DeleD. Rest is Paint.NET and GIMP.

I maybe reaching, but cant you utilise layers in the PNG format, to stack the information? |
The layers have to be flattened upon export. It does support transparency though. I chose the format because it is lossless. |

Agreed, albeit that as it is still a png format, the layers are maintained. Just a thought.

Sorry, been busy. Here are the tiles I made with DeleD, Paint.NET and GIMP...they were reduced to 64x64 for the game.
docks, factory, boat, farm:
grain silo, hospital, mine, power plant:
college, warehouse:
