Hi Guys,
As you all know, I am no longer actively contributing to the DeleD project, but I'm always watching things from the sideline. Some very interesting stuff in the pipeline (shhhhh), but that's not what I came here to talk about... I came here to invite you all to take a first look at a new pet project me and some other folks are working on:
Board Game Machine
Basically, it's a generic online 3D board game simulator. Currently we only have a Windows client, but we plan to have support on every major platform (especially everyting tablet-like!).
Download the client here!
Please keep in mind the software is still very much in development. There is only about 1.5 game available, so you might feel a little bit lost if you don't know these particular games... but we'd still very much appreciate if you could try it out anyway, and let us know what you think, and how we can improve things!
Here are some other options to let us know what you think:
Features include:
- Rich lobby featuring basic account management, game table setup, favorite games, friends, chat, etc
- Rule-compliant gameplay
- Full 3D playing environment
- Playable, but far from complete, Richard III
- Fully playable Hammer of the Scots
- Play against human opponents or AI
- Auto-check for new updates of the software
Help wanted
We could really use some help in the graphics department, both for the core application and the ecosystem around it (website, forum, facebook). Additionally, we could definitely use some 3D models for things like dice and specific game pieces.
During a later phase, we will be looking for people with a knack for programming to help out to convert more board games to their digital counterpart (we use a game-specific language, designed specifically to efficiently describe boardgame rulesets).
Other than that, we really just need people playing the game, or talking about it. Any and all feedback is most appreciated!

Neat, what sort of technology went/is going into this?
When you say a game-specific language, some sort of modeling language, or an actual programming language?
Also in the second image, that's not william wallace! William wallace is seven feet tall! And he consumes the english with fireballs from his eyes and lightning from his arse! |

This board game based upon Risk?
On the model front, I do have some free time on my hands, as other projects are pending. If you have some ideas you wish to share, please IM me here, so we can exchange communication links. _________________ Politeness is priceless when received, cost nothing to own or give, yet some cannot afford.

The website loads fine, but clicking on that link, the extra t in "htttp" (in the one AWM posted, I think Paul fixed the original) fouls things up for my version of firefox and AWM's version of IE. So that's the issue - Unless if you clicked on that link and your version of firefox corrected the typo and loaded up the site just fine. Then I call your browser a witch!
Although, I think we've beaten this horse dead already |

First of all, yeah I might a big fat typo in the link there. Something different browsers treat with varying amounts of tolerance. Fixed now, thanks!
@Starnick: Some of the technology currently going in:
- Server running webservice on a Windows/IIS stack.
- Server doing all evaluations. Game "script" is a dedicated OO programming language, favoring the concept of `object transforms´ over method arguments. This encourages the usage of small, dedicated objects (i.e. specific transforms for specific goals), as opposed to manager-type do-it-all objects. My development partner graduated in compiler construction (long, looooong ago) and spends relevant bits of the day job developing business dsl's, which makes this a feasible route to take.
- Client (one of many to come) written in Delphi/FireMonkey (cross-platform GUI), 3D engine running on DX9 (we have need to support Windows XP).
- Very doable to add OpenGL layer to 3D engine and go crossplatform to Mac... but it's not on the top of the list. Tablets are more attractive.
- Communication layer is classic soap... although with a custom xml protocol embedded for flexibility. After we round off the first client we´ll probably have to clean it up a bit more, to allow 3rd parties to develop clients as well.
@AWM Mars: Awesome! Message sent...
Also, if someone wonders why everthing is so slow... my role in this project is rendering engineer, so I'm to blame! Will get around to optimizing stuff soon, just have to wade through all the code people piled on top of my beautiful little engine. Code would be so much more efficient if it didn't actually have to run applications!
