Hello everyone...

My name is Patrick and I am an experienced 3D character artist & animator, I've been in the industry for some years now but primarily working on game related projects, and I've wanted to breach into the teaching side of things for some time now. I've decided to create such training content under my new company 'Indieworx' which is still in a very early start-up phase, however the training will be published through this source.

I am not someone who has been around these forums very much before, I think I visited a long time ago but didn't bother making an account to interact with the community behind DelED. I have used the software in the past but not recently, however I still have it installed and I want to go through the process of creating a series of tutorial videos on 3d modeling, and DelED is one of a few pieces of software that I will cover, so I wanted to finally register and make a post to ask 'you' guys and gals, the active users. What kind of things 'you' would like to see in a series of training videos.

I've created video training in the past, although I haven't in the past six months and I would link you to my previous training works as a sample, but sadly... My YouTube account was banned for reasons that Google wouldn't give me (with no way of appealing) so I have lost all of that content. My future releases will be hosted on Vimeo and my website. I may also upload to YouTube, but it won't be my primary video host.

I don't want to re-create a handful of duplicate content on the basics of 'x' and 'y' or "how to make this exact thing with this exact process" but I would like to 'teach' & 'inspire' people, providing the foundations and challenging folks to almost think on their feet with interactive training, but sadly I cannot currently tackle that form of teaching, so what I aim to do is create a structured series of videos to start and build up to a more interactive approach to things a little later.

What I would like to hear from all of you is, what would you like to see that you 'never' see from tutorials or training videos in general or even, what have you seen in training videos that you've liked and wished more sources of video training did the same?

So far the video training that I will provide will be on creating video game assets of all kinds from props to characters and level art, so you can feel free to make a suggestion on this type of thing if you'd like but ideally looking for information of the style of teaching that is preferred to help me get a better idea of what can help students of video training most.

Kind Regards,
Patrick.

Hi Patrick, welcome to DeleD CE forums.

Have you had time to look around the Tutorials section and the Wiki? Both contain forms of instruction created by users of DeleD, that offer some rudimentary 'how to' content. Some of which can be used by other 3D programmes.
You could cherry pick from there, building blocks for basic requirements for anyone creating virtual objects and scenes.

I am curious, are you going to do this specifically for DeleD CE? Whilst it uses many functions found in more powerful software, it is somewhat unique in its approach.

Whilst I use quite a few programmes to produce my immersive environments from 3DMax to AutoCad, I use DeleD CE for most of my modelling work and even for complete scenes. Simply put, why open MS Office 2016, when Wordpad will do the job in hand? If I need specialist tools, I export/import the model/scene elsewhere.

Either way, It is great that you chose DeleD as a platform for your videos. It is also possibly your lucky day, if you are looking for a streaming host for your videos, I may be able to help you there.

I would offer a word of advise. Never expose a url unless it contains useful information. Under Construction is so 2000, and it has shown 80% of visitors do not return.

I have had a little look around the tutorial section, yes. I haven't seen too much, some of the threads I found that looked to have quality content had broken image links or removed videos. There are a few that I've come across which are pretty good indeed... I don't want to simply cherry pick or build training content based on what is already out there though, I will of course cover basics and interface related things, but more geared towards the 'practice' with regards to other content.

The initial intent was in fact to use DelED CE, but as of right now I am asking around a few communities for some information to the initial questions I've posted before I include specifics into the plans of the content. I remember using DelED on a project because someone I know was using it, and it was more effective at the time for me to pickup and use it than it was to get a new license to Maya for the other guy. I was pretty impressed by it and I still have some fun diving into the application from time to time, but the other free software I am a fan of is Wings3D which is also a software listed to go through for this training project.

I don't completely understand what you mean to the end of this paragraph, I assume you mean something along the lines of why open max when you can use deled, which I understand. Many users will take that stance across any free software vs paid.

I personally have used Maya for about 11yrs and at least 6yrs professionally, whilst using various other software throughout my career, such as Cinema4D, Zbrush, 3D Coat and MODO to name a few. I've always been a fan of 3d applications, and I am quite versatile with regards to 3d software. So the choice of software for the training videos is less important than the concepts and content taught to me, which is because generally speaking, the interface and hotkeys are usually the only differing factor excluding a handful of tools that use a slightly different workflow for applying certain operations and the way some use advanced functions.

Thanks, I am quite fond of this project, just looking for some good feedback from the potential viewers of the content I'll be creating...

It contains a countdown of the launch date and a newsletter sign-up, I think that is fine enough for now honestly, the url is exposed but not marketed and once live it won't be marketed initially and will serve as an information dump until the blog goes live, its no problem and won't cause any harm with people not coming back to the website, in other industries perhaps and with other business models where their website is the core of their business this may be different but for me this isn't going to be an issue at all but thanks for the advice, the content will drive people to the site once its ready I just placed the URL there because its easier to place all the information than nit-pick and place little bits and have to go around each forum and website to log in and add the URL when it's live, just makes my life easier and doesn't hurt. Wink

Kind Regards,
Patrick.
