Smokin Shocked It's my experience that DeleD starts getting a little pokey at 20,000 polys on my system.

It works! DeleD web edition OBJ importer test...

I used an Open Arena model (space marine). The artwork is not mine I just converted it from MD3 to OBJ with a tool that I am (still) trying to finish.

I grabbed some time and uploaded one of my scenes, which is just over 54k polys. I have much larger ones, but judging by not just the smooth way it uploaded and rendered this scene flawlessly, I may wait until textures show before using a bigger one.
This is so much more quality importer and very quick. Each view window is really fast rendering the model whilst moving, even very quickly.

Small point, it's now okay to post here and not the alpha forums?

That's awesome, AWM - thanks for testing. I'm very glad to see you like the OBJ importer. A lot of work went into getting it to load smoothly so it's good to see that confirmed.

About the rendering: you will notice that if you have no selection, things run stunningly fast. You can have scenes with 150k+ polys easily. But if you select a huge object, things slow down fast. We're working hard to improve on that too.

And yeah, it's ok to show alpha pictures here. We're slowly moving towards a beta release, and I will announce that to a broader adience anyway. Smile

Working on loading materials from OBJ files:

Again, not my model - I just found it on the net somewhere. Kudos to whoever made it!

I have some code cleaning to do before releasing this to the Alpha version of DeleD Web Edition. Getting there. Smile

Maybe that's where a timeline or Gantt chart would come in handy. Not just as an indicator of the sheer number of things needed for a project like this, but to show where in the progress elements will appear. Useful for the hungry users and projects developers alike.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gantt_chart

One good thing is, as this project isn't time sensitive it doesn't need to have a time scale to measure against, only show what is progressing and how it's linked to predecessors in the chain of development.

I used Project Management tools such as these for years, they can be applied to almost any project that requires 2 or more elements. An experienced user can apply all sorts of resources to these tools. For instance, if you borrow money to complete a project, it shows expenditure requirements and interest liabilities, and the consequences of any slippage in the timescale. Clearly not needed here, but can show which elements are required before another can be started. This not only would show the hungry users at what stage say Shortcut keys will be implemented in the chain of development, but also act as a reminder/lead for the developers.

If you wish, I can take on this task, and update a simple chart on the forums, if Jeroen has the time to give me some information, and update me on progress at intervals.

Sounds interesting AWM, and thank you for your offer to help out in this area. Smile

However, I am hesitating to go this route. In software development, things like Agile / Scrum are the defacto standard way of working. In short, in comes down to having a backlog with things to develop over a longer time. This list is constantly updated and prioritized based on user feedback. The things with the highest priority get worked on in socalled sprints of, say 2 weeks, after which a new version of the software is released. It's a matter of delivering new releases quickly, receiving feedback, update priorities, deliver new release etc.

I have a backlog with the things I want to implement over time. I could put it online in a forum post and update it when needed + show what is worked on at the moment. That would not take that much of my time, while still showing you guys what is to be developed / worked on. How about that?

I'm sure that would satisfy nearly all patient users Smile Thanks for doing that.
