I wanted to say this before, but I very much like the focus on the concrete shapes, it's somewhere in the middle between the 'Raw' (post-war) Britisch architectural style and "future military complex". The lightmapping sure adds to the eyecandy factor
The only thing I like a little bit less is the railing, but maybe that's because I've never seen thick concrete raling in real life. It looks a bit... I don't know, toy-like? |

hey pj, just saying that post war british architectural fetish for concrete is called "brutalism" i think - thats art courses for ya
really cool level dave, it would look nice with some landmarks in the big rooms, its what makes a level really stand out. and for those railings, would thin cylinders instead of blocks be a bit better? i dont know, but they do look sweet lightmapped with the new system - especially if you've got a sleek metal texture at hand to contrast the concrete perfectly.

Ooo ooo, and with specular and defuse maps to give you the nice real plasticly feel you get from Doom3 . Once again good work Dave, and I agree with Khris the rails shoudl be cylindrical rather than cuboides. |

Khris... a yeah, Brutalism! Thanks for refreshing my memory!
Dave... I think the new hand rails look lots and lots better, cool! I also very much like the relief on the concrete textures, at some point in the future Jeroen and I really have to add Normal mapping to the material editor, it would really add to scenes like this. |

it certainly was Brutalism, and yep - the UK fell for it.
However we didn't come up with - Corbusier did - and i don't think he accidentally drowned - I think it was probably quite deliberate after he realised what he'd done.

They keep blowing up post war tower blocks here - and there are a few parts of Paris that could do with the same treatment.
Still it works very well on screen ... just as long as you don't have to live there.
cheers
Strangely enough it was the Germans that gave us the opportunity to implement his architectural philosophy - what a shame it wasn't German Huf houses that we went with ..!
