Here I am learning DeleD, and at the same time teaching others. Very Happy
That's ok, I don't mind a bit. This is the first of a series of tutorials that I am writing for Deled.
Enjoy.

I plan to do more tutorials in the future and add links to the bottom of the tutorial pages for the next tut.
These tutorials are linked from 3dcentral.net weblinks page.

Very nice to see someone trying to help others, but may I point out, your pictures, could be clearer, and be visible on the page with the writing side of things, this would let people download them if they needed, to use offline.

Very true. I optimised the pics for the web. That's why they look the way they do.
I'll redo them, add them to the webpage, and provide a link to the full size. I think that will work better.

Allow me to use this thread to point out that we're in the middle of setting up DeleD tutorials on our main site. We're developing a tutorial-template and are thinking of a series of topics we like to see tutorials being written for. We will write a few tutorials ourselfs but the main idea is that other people also write tutotials using the template we provide. Will keep you posted! Very Happy

Stefan: Open up the Options screen (CTRL+ALT+O), Colors tab, Viewport background color.

Nextdoorscat: if there is anything in particular you'd like to see explained in a tutorial, just yell. We'll set up the general framework for the tutorials, and ask people to write tutorials on specific topics, so like Jeroen said: ideas for topics are most welcom! Smile

Uhhh, everything!! Laughing

But laughing aside, for someone like me, who's only ever modelled in Wings and in Atmosphere, this is a completely different approach, and I just haven't been able to get the 'feel' for the user interface, or the various methods of modelling it uses that everyone here finds so easy to master. I still hit my head on the keyboard in frustration because I still can't even select something I want properly! Plus all this flipping and manually deleting of polygons scares the pants off me, because the need for this never existed in the other programs I use. And I haven't even progressed to texturing yet!

I think what I really need is a user guide, but I know how much hard work it is to produce one of those, especially as DeleD is evolving all the time.... so just simple 3 or 4 step tuts on the very basic skills would be a great start, at least for me. You know, something along the lines of 'DeleD for Dorks'... Laughing

I'm sorry. Hadn't seen this.
Nextdoorscat,
A lot of the things you do in DeleD take more than one key.
For example..
If you place a box in your scene, you have 2 options to select it.
The object inspector
the 2d screen.
In order to select an object in the views you have to hold down shift, and then left click on the object.
Same for face mode. In selecting a face in face mode tho, you have to watch one of the views (I use top view) for the red line. That red line is the selected face.

I'll redo the tutorial this weekend.

Jeroen, That will be great.

Actually, you can use the 3D view for selecting an object too. Wink

In fact, it's pretty easy. Use SHIFT+leftmouse to select an object. Then use SHIFT+leftmouse to select an item (vertex, edge, polygon) from that selected object.
