I'm lighting my dome, It's half a sphere hollowed out using csg subtraction. On one side, I have an area that I have "bumped out".
The lighting looks great, but for some odd reason, there is the shadow of a dog on the wall right in the middle of the light.

Now, I didn't put a dog in that world, and hopefully I am still the only one there.
The following 2 pics are the wireframe views.
top view: http://g2.3dcentral.net/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=289
front view: http://g2.3dcentral.net/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=295
If I can't figure out and fix this spot, I'm going to end up trashing the dome and rebuilding it. again.
There are 2 point lights, colored bright red, (252,8,54) in that area. There really shouldn't be a shadow there at all. You can see the lights in the top view, and partially in the front view. (side view doesn't show anything.)
Thanks for looking.

That's really spooky!
Maybe you've made some object invisible and the lightmapper still takes them into account? Just a wild guess though... |

Quick reply, (late for work already)
What happened there was that my dome was wider than the floor. I decided to use that instead of fixing it. I moved the wall out (cant recall the name of that feature. Opposite side of object mode) and moved the points out to make that cove.
I dunno. If you look closely, at the bottom of the dogs neck is where one of the pointlights is. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

I found my problem.
Some of my polys were inside out. It was a great effect, but just not what I wanted.
Here is what I wanted.

Edit to add:
Is there a way to fix this so that you can't turn polys inside out?
What I did was to subtract one sphere from another, then in poly mode, I moved the polys out to make a cove. It's difficult to tell which polys are actually being moved when there are 2 sets. (hollow won't work with more than 32 polys)
I ended up getting the inside and outside walls mixed. In the pic above, you can see there are some spots that I did that again, just not on the same scale. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

I remember someone having troubles with subtracting spheres (Vampyre?) so I'm glad that worked for you. Moving multiple polygons of a sphere at the same time is... err... ill advised because DeleD doesn't handle that very well right now. I'm busy refactoring the lowpoly routines (as you know) and Paul-Jan and I have been discussing this particular problem too. For now, it seems that I will have to implement more than 1 method of moving polygons, depending on the exact set of selected polygons and their orientation. Difficult stuff, but we'll get into it! DeleD 1.4 will most likely have this solved. |

Sounds great.
(oh, and umm, I misspoke above... I moved the vertices. ) _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.
