Here's another one for you people to have a go at!
I know I know, it looks much like something hpesoj already came up with. I just like buildings like these.
This time, try to texture your building and use good lighting on the result. Also notice the details in the picture. Your building doesn't have to be an exect replica of this one, just try to create something that produces a simular look 'n' feel! |

I'll duck out of these I think now until I've mastered DeleD... although the challenge is fun! |

They were never meant to be a challenge! It's fun to see everyone's take, not on needs to out do each other. |

Not bad. Something you can do to make it easier is model the windows ON TOP the block you made for the building. It gives you less polygons in the end and it makes it wasier on you too. Lots of people do this, and it doesn't look worse.
As you can see in the original pic, the windows have frames that come off of the building anyways. |

This is like the first real thing I've modeled with Deled. The only other tool I've really used a lot is Milkshape.
I had a little trouble getting the windows to fit right. |

Hi there Darkzim, and welcome!
For a first real thing, you've created something very nice, I think.

You can use something like this for precise fitting:
- set Snap Method of the object to none (in object properties)
- use CTRL+arrow keys or SHIFT+arrow keys for precise movement of your object; that'll make sure you can place your object precily where you want it
Keep it up! |

After studying Deled and its new features for a while, I decided to give this modeling exercise a try, so here's my first shot:
I'll be posting its progress as I detail it more. I'm still trying to get the right proportions for the building, which is a bit tricky, but little by little... |

Very nice work Afecelis! Very nice indeed!
I'm wondering... how did you create that screenshot? |

hehehehe! Thnx for the comments guys! I already finished the stair. The funny thing it's that it's completely non-functional; if you analyze it, it takes you nowhere. Just like an MC Escher stair!!!
@Jeroen: about the screenie... that's homework...naaaaaaaaah! It's pretty simple yet impressive. Take your screenshot with print screen with your lightmapped model and save it as screenie01; then hit F1 in deled to change it to wireframe mode and print screen another screenshot (this one in wireframe); save it as screenie02.
Now open up photoshop ( I use Paint shop pro) and open screenie01 and screenie 02. Goto screenie 02, select all and copy it into the clipboard. Goto screenie01 and paste screenie 02 as a new layer. Play with your layer transparency and when you get the deisred resul merge layers into a single image!!! Nice trick, huh? Pretty used in architecture to blend renders with their wireframes...also in cars!!!
so that was afecelis' 101 crash course in PSpro!!! back to my model, wann uplaod another screenshot!

Ok, could you do it, Jeroen?
Here's the rail and the stair. Jeroen, you can't imagine how much I missed a Layer system here! Having to pick everything by hand is kind of a pain. And I also noticed some weird behaviour with the group function; sometimes cloned groups end up ungrouped. Also mesh colors would vastly improve workflow
Time for lunch! |

That's a nice trick you pulled there, Afecelis, with the different layers and all that!
Group/ungroup... heh, I don't want to elaborate too much on that subject, let's just say one "word": POC.
Mesh colors: I'm no modeller myself, how would mesh colors improve workflow? Convince me, and we'll put it in 1.4 (to be released after 1.34). |

hehehe, convince you...mmm that's a challenge!
Well, mesh colors would work perfect with a layer system. Let's say I create a layer: "walls" and assign it a color, any color, let's say:green. Then I create "windows" in yellow, floors in "purple" , etc etc. Not only will it force me to work in a more organized way but also it will be an easier to read map when in wireframe since the different colors will help you visualize better what you're working on instead of all the mesh being a dark blue wire. Leaving it the way as it is now may be optional, something like a check box in the customization options: "single color for meshes" or "meshes use layer color". It would also improve your grouping system since you could simply choose the layer name and everything in it would be selected allowing you to group, ungroup or turn off that specific layer. This way your workflow will be faster and organized and you can build your levels and visualize them by stages. You can work on 1 layer at a time: Just walls, just windows, etc. You could even think of an Xref system (like autocad's) in which a team takes the basic skeleton of a level but each one works on something different; by the end of the day each team feeds its work back to the central level. Am I going too far???
Perhaps it's just us Architects and the way we're structured to think. But I'm sure Deled has the potential for this; and today, working on this building... I felt it!!! hahahahahha. But don't worry my dear Jeroen, your tool is evolving in a very staisfactory way.
