Hi guys,
I've almost finished my last madness , an Irrlicht screensaver that loads randomly your DeleD levels and have different camera movements, as well as skyboxes.
I'm refining user options (screen resolution etc...) but to show you what I intend, give a look to this:
Please let me know if you have some ideas to implement prior this release (it's my current screensaver ).
Bye and see you soon .
P.S.:
Maybe I'll be in chat tomorrow (I hope so).

Hi Il Buzzo,
I kinda new you were working on this one, but a great project it is!
I really like how you got the preview going, that would've been my first request (lots of screensavers don't support it)
Things on my wishlist:
- a nice and simple installation process.
- even if some keys might be used to move the camera / toggle options / whatever, it should be really really easy to quit the screensaver. If a screensaver is inconvenient most people are very quick to uninstall it...
- make it a WinAmp plugin, too <- j/k there
Can't wait to play around with this new toy! |

Hi Guys,
@Paul-jan
Thanks for suggestions.
I've lost lot of time to make it work with full support of Microsoft options, in fact when you'll click settings... it could be configured as standard Microsoft plugins.
For the moment I don't know if camera will be controlled by user (anyway a screensaver is intended to be used during pauses), but rather you'll have it randomly placed over map (at prefixed times) or better it will follow a path.
I'm working on this now.
As for installation it will come as a Setup.exe that will guide you through setup (ssaver goes in windows\system32 and your options will be mantained).
Concerning WinAmp I'm currently downloading SDK... we'll talk of this in chat this evening.
Bye |

Hi Guys,
Breaking news, I've just introduced audio in my screensaver.... .
It load a casual mp3 or ogg or wav or what else I'll support in future in a dir and then it play casually a song until it's ended. Then it continues.....
I've used audiere.dll to support (it's a great piece of soft ).
Well, release is approching .... bye all . |

Ah, more goodness, great!
Request: please give us an option to turn off the audio as well. I once had a demoscene screensaver (with loud techno music) installed, and left the pc on while I was gone to work. Oh, and I had been playing some games the night before with headphones on so the volume was set to Really Loud (tm). When I came back from work the neighbours weren't exactly happy with the noise that had been coming through their walls for 8 hours straight |

Hi Guys,
Good news, I've just finished audio implementatio now my screensaver supports:
-mp3
-ogg
-wav
-aiff
-mod
-it
-xm
-s3m
-flac
I hope is enough for audio. I was now thinking of camera movements....
In a first moment I was thinking to implement a standard movement based on level extension with camera pointing at centre of scene (really simple implementation but not good for every scene).
But now I'm thinking to write camera positions and rotations to a file using a little app I'm writing so you can personalize your camera path (I'll write defined paths for DeleD predefined scenes) but it will be more time consuming for user....
So give me an opinion on this option in the pool...
Bye all |

If the camera is going to have a path, it would be nice to have a simple way to make that path for users. This is looking great. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

Actually, I'd like it best if the program suggested a camera path (randomly generated or whatever) and then enables me to modify it.
This is pretty much advanced functionality for a screensaver |

Cool I was wondering, are you planning on opening up the source? I completely understand if you don't (makes sense), but if you get this semi-automated camera stuff up and running I'd definitely be interested in taking a little peak at the underlying code |

Well,
I don't know if I'll release all source code now but I know I'll release an Irrlicht Screensaver template after this and sure camera movement code (if it works as I'd like ).
Anyway if I get requests I'll sure release it as opensource (maybe zip license that is Irrlicht one).
Bye . |

You should allow people to embed that path in the level via the tag info data. That would make it really easy to create some cool screensavers quickly |
