|
|
I just completed making multiple holes in a new game I'm making, and after going thru the pain of:
click main object->ctrl click subtractive object->subtract
repeat multiple times....
I was wondering if there was an easier way to do this?
As you can see, I have made 9 partial holes. Could I have just:
clicked main object->ctrl clicked all 9 subtractive objects->subtract???
This project is no big deal, but in a really large game, such as trouble, or another game with a whole lot of holes, it would be a long adventure. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

copy/paste holes?????
I cloned all the boxes used to make the holes. I'm just wondering if I could have done this in one move, or if all 9 were necessary. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

Yes.
Hole is only a hole because it has stuff around it. Otherwise the hole is 'nothing'. Each row of holes is made up of a series of horizontal bars to seperate them.
Copy the first column and paste the across. (Yes, I know what you were asking!) |

Hmm, ok. Hadn't even thought about doing something like that.
Thanks. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

why not make a first module with a box that includes hole numer zero in it, get a clean boolean operation and then copy /paste this "module" as in an array. Then you can merge your new "wall" created from "holed-bricks" into a single geometry. |

Well, that would have made sure the holes were evenly spaced. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

hehehe, yup!
but then, you can always grab a full set of vertices in a specific row or column to change its width specifically. Remember we merged everything into a single mesh. |

Maybe I'm not seeing the entire picture here, but surely the solution is simple to merge all the boxes, and then perform CSG on the wall using the resulting single-mesh box array? |

Don't the boxes need to be touching each other to merge them?
Anyway, to wipe out any doubt, the project is done (as you can see in the pic in the first post), I was just wondering if there was an easier way to do it. Some interesting ideas here tho. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

Well it looks pretty cool in Irrlicht.

I think I need to change the color of the X. It kinda blends in at the moment. It'll get there. _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

CSG Union requires it, but merge simple combines multiple meshes into a single mesh. |
