If I create a simple cube - is there a way to have one single texture cover a set of faces. ie. I want one texture wrapped around the upright faces of a cube - with only one start and end point to the texture.
Can this be done in the Lite version ?

The short answer: no, this can't be done automatically with either Lite or PRO version yet. You'll have to tweak the texturing manually in face mode.
You are talking UV Editing (and UV Unwrapping) functionality here, something DeleD will definitely offer in the (not even that distant) future. The main reason why it isn't supported yet is that in "map editing", where DeleD originates, such an approach to texturing is much less common than in modeling of single objects.
However, like I said, we definitely have plans to introduce such functionality. In the meanwhile, you'd best resort to tools like Ultimate Unwrap 3D or any other tool that offers 'box mapping'. |

Wings can do this I think, and it's free.
*You can also do it in Deled, but it's a manual task. You have to line up some rectangles across the normal surface of the texture(using autouv to line if up). Then turn off AutoUV, and make up the sides of the cube and merge them.
-edit, fixed typo- _________________

Dunno. Its not just "free" like "it doesnt cost anything". Its free like in freedom. So, you can use the program for everything you want and you can help the developers with searching bugs and editing the source code.

Thanks for clearing that up twice. A GNU speech really helped this user solve his texturing problem. What did any of this have to do with helping him solve that?
Wings3D is good sometimes when you need a quick function done on an existing model and you just import it in, and export it back out to the other, more capabale editor you were using.
But as is typical of OSS type programs, ten years into Wings development and you still can't delete polygons because

Exactly! Your imiginary answer of an dev, why Wings cannot delete polygons, brings it to the point. Your an idiot.

That is their exact answer. They question why anyone would ever want to go about deleting a polygon from a model, and then talk about how they think it's a very stupid thing to do.
While we are on the topic of idiocy, your and you're aren't the same thing. GNU boy. _________________

Guys, enough.
You seem to disagree on almost everything. That's ok. But keep things friendly. Maybe you're all just kidding but we don't want people to misunderstand such conversations. Besides that, this topic is now very much offtopic so I'm closing it. That's it, no discussion about it. |
