Maybe the abillity to paint lighting and set flags (like receivers no light or emits light) would be cool?
One idea is to have a line or brush that effects local areas by blending with the finished lightmap.
i.e. I have a neon. I set the neon face to Fully lit/uneffected by light (like VD's tutorial) and draw a line along the lightmap in that area. Set the radius to 10, set additive blending and add a 'gradient' from the center to the edge, so the light fades away with distance)
The surrounding texels receiver a blended line with these settings.

This is just a off the top of my head example but lightmap processing/editing in a 3D environment would be cool!

While your at it how about Global illumination Very Happy Laughing
