Right now the different shading modes (wire, solid, textured, lightmapped) only work for the perspective view. Would it be possible to get them working in orthogonal views as well? This way we could have "facades" of our projects with lightmpas and everything. And how bout' a nice top view as in a plan drwaing? hehehhee. It would be cool |

I agree, that would be a cool Feature. IrrEdit has that mode already and it is fun to work with. |

Interesting idea! An important aspect would be the usability for modeling purposes.
How does one solve the problem with objects blocking your view? Would the 2D views become masquaraded 3D windows, but orthographic? (In which case I would be more in favour of working towards fully configurable generic 3D viewpoints and full 3D editing capabilities)
We'll have a look at IrrEdit and see how well it is implemented over there. Comments on this are most welcome! |

I think that merging the 2D and 3D window functionalities, and providing ortho and perspective views both in the same kind of window, is the way to go. Much like 3ds Max does it :-)
3ds Max also lets you save a favorite layout, such as single-viewport, dual-viewport, etc, and resize the viewports. I typically work in a single viewport, but re-configure the view (left/top/front/perspective with L/T/F/P) all the time while working. |
