You are looking for the Split Edge function. Select the edge, select "split" enter 2 (to split the edge in 2 halves, creating a vertex) and OK _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

Mr. Fletcher is right.
Also, I'm planning to enhance these routines in the future, so that you can simply click on an edge to add a vertex at that position. |

That sounds great! Because when you have a sloping (?) edge and you don't want the vertex in the middle, you would break the edge in two halves when moving! _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

Will the new feature be available in next version 1.71? |

I don't know when I will implement that function. Hopefully soon enough though. |

Isn't the typical solution for this to implement various "snap" modes. If you set cursor location to "snap to edges" and then create a new vertex, it will be created snapped to whatever edge the cursor is hovering over or near. |
