Hi all of you at delgine developers !
I'm working with computer-grafix since 25 years - and have NOW found a 3D-editing-program what makes FUN to work with. I've looked intensely at all those confusing 4-look-window-programs up to thousands of dollars; but not one is as self-declaring and human-friendly as DeleD !!!
Raytraycing i do with barely known Dream-3D, a Corel Draw 7 (!) bypack - because it uses the standard windows-gui. It's lack is that only spline-extrusion is supported. But great results are possible.
Since a few years i look for an environment to visualize my thoughts about mmo's future. So i found Deled, to create some things, houses, instances i miss in played mmo's. Now i can show the world in some months what my ideas are.
BUT: Where do i find an engine, a world-creator or minimum a terrain-editor, to easily place houses and other objects to see them together ? Is in Nuclear-Fusion a useable tool to do this ? (Animation i leave for further activities...) And once again: With DeleD you've done a Great Job !!

Hello there harper, and welcome to these forums!
First of all, thank you very much for the compliment, greatly appreciated. Especially coming from someone like yourself, having 25 years experience.
About your question: if all you want is a static 3D world to fly around, DeleD can be used to put things together too when you make use of prefabs. Create your objects like usual, save them as prefabs and when your done, select the prefabs you want from the Prefabs treeview and place them in a new scene by just clicking somewhere in a 2D view (I'm sure you knew this already).
With DeleD 1.7, you can also create simple landscapes by using a Grid object, rearranging vertices to create hills and then use the Smooth command the create nicely rounded hills.
If you want more than just flying around and don't mind a little programming too, you could take a look at Torque, Nuclear Fusion, BlitzBasic and/or DarkBasic, to name but a few.
To create detailed terrains, try using the Search on these forums and look in the Other Tools area for more hints and tips. I'm sure there are quite a few listed already, although I don't know if the good ones are free...
Hope this helps! |

If you have $100 to spare, the Torque Game Engine (or the new TSE) is great for this. You can create terrains and place houses and other game elements, all while your game is running so you see things in action instantly. The engine itself might have it's limits, but I love this particular aspect of it.
At $200, there is C4, which offers about the same, but is slightly more powerful (and slightly less user friendly)... but it doesn't do terrain. |

You can also go to www.multiverse.net and download their server/client software for free. If you just want a mock-up world, you can use the OGRE exporter to directly export a model to the mesh/material format and import it into as a multiverse asset. Build a heightmap terrain (or use their terrain generator), import that in. Load it all up in their world editor, place what you want, save it, configure the server, and log in.
Granted, it'll be very static, and you would pass through the models (no collision volumes, and at the moment deleD doesnt seem to export CVs correctly without some work-arounds [ie exporting it to another modeller and and so on].
But it'll be free, and you can walk around in a pre-made avatar, and setting it up is actually rather easy. |
