Welcome to Everyone Models, edition 11 already!

Take a look at this here screenshot of a sort of octopus I created using DeleD 1.71:

Can you do better? Wink

We're sure you can! In fact, we hope you'll do better than us because we have been thinking about introducting a DeleD mascotte and guess what, we want it to be a cute little octopus. Razz

Okay, okay, so that means my own try-out won't do, because... well... it's kinda scary, don't you think? Confused

So help us out here by creating a nice, small, smiling octopus, with big eyes. Something like the one I made, but a nice, friendly one. A purple color would be cool too. Wink Who knows, we might pick yours to be the future DeleD mascotte (to be used on our main website, in DeleD itself, for promotional campaigns etc). Eternal fame is to be won here, so give it your best shot! You can do it! Very Happy

Yours is better than mine. (but then I don't have access to 1.7.1) and have used features of pro that I've never used before. Mine kinda sucks. <--(pssst...that's a link)
Edit--> I have lit the scene and added a background texture. (image in link changed)

Ah, but you can make this here octopus with 1.7 perfectly. The raytraced picture came from 1.71 beta though. Wink

Here's what I did:

- create an 8-sided cylinder
- extrude the 8 side polygons multiple time, thus creating "legs"
- rearrange the various segments of the legs by moving their vertices around
- inset and extrude the top polygon, creating a head
- use Smooth on the entire object once or twice

That's very nice Elementrix!

One remark: the legs don't seem to be attached to the main body very well. Is that correct?

I love that toon-shaded look!

A question about octopi, though: aren't they usually holding one or a few scantily clad Japanese girls when you see them rendered? :-)

Nice try! Maybe you can use smoothing on the legs to make them rounder?

Perhaps we should do without a mouth!?

I don't know. It's always like there's missing something:

Oh yeah! I really like the bottom-right picture! Very Happy

I'd go without a mouth right now... A mouth is hard to get right while making sure the model still looks OK.
