DeleD PRO or 3D World Studio?
I'm working on a 3D mmorpg and I need an easy yet powerful world builder but I just don't know which 1 to get..
Can anyone that used both recommend me or tell me some ups and downs of each software?
Thanks a lot. |

The only answer is to compare features and see which one fits YOUR needs the most. _________________

I own and use both. DeleD Pro is more powerful and has more features, but 3DWS is more user friendly for people just getting into game development.
3DWS is a brush-based level editor and is currently only good for creating low-detail levels, models have to be created in another editor, imported, and scaled correctly, while DeleD is also a modeler which can be used to create meshes(go figure) and levels with higher detail, all-in-one.
Also, 3DWS is going to be upgraded to v6 soon(ish), and because of the new features being added, the price is going to sky-rocket, as Leadwerks is going to be targeting a more professional audience, while keeping the v5 to v6 upgrade cheap enough for indie developers.
But, at the same time, DeleD Pro already has a lot of the features that are likely going into 3DWS v6.
Also, support for DeleD is much better than 3DWS. I've only owned the Pro version for a month or so, and posted only a few times on the forums, and these guys seem to be on top of things, whereas 3DWS v5 is no longer being updated until Leadwerks finishes Leadwerks Engine SDK, which is what 3DWS v6 is going to be based on.
DeleD supports more file formats for import/export.
So, 3DWS v6 might equal or even exceed DeleD, but that's still down the road a bit, and by then, DeleD's probably gonna be right there with 'em anyway.
If you take a look at Leadwerks Engine, you'll get an idea of what to expect from 3DWS v6. *hint, hint* Delgine |

As a small addition to the good advice warcrest just posted (oh, and thanks for the tip on the 3DWS functionality preview!),
The most urgent thing would be figuring out whether DeleD or 3DWS actually exports to the engine you want to run your mmorpg on. If it's brush based, and 3DWS exports to it, you are probably better off with 3DWS (native brush modeler). If it's polygon based my advice would be to go with DeleD. If we don't have an exporter for it yet we'll build one.
If you don't know what game engine you'll be using, try to decide on that first. No good creating models just for the sake of it, you'll need to test them in the environment they'll be used in. |

That's very interesting and also kind of complicates things for me in choosing which 1..
The reason I'm thinking about Deled is because I've seen some amazing realms made with it for the RealmCrafter engine.

Luckily for me my game engine (RealmCrafter) supports both and the new upcoming version should really be amazing renderingly speaking.
I'm testing both demos now and see which 1 speaks to me..
It's too bad deled lite blocks most features, I'd be more satisfied if all tools were available and the saving option would be blocked. personally I'm a 3DS Max user and every tool counts.
Thanks a lot for the replies. |

I used to spend most of my life in a brush modeller. It was very limited and I hated the restrictions on stuff. You try pulling a vertex on a model, and the rest have to move too to keep the shape 'legal'.
DeleD is just a polygon modeler, and I can do whatever I want with my geometry. There is so much more freedom in dealing with raw polygon data. _________________

Yeah knowing your medium is a big first, and I also agree with what warcrest said. I went through the same comparison between Deled Pro and 3DWS, Deled won out because it was (partly) easier to get into MV (not completely, with physics...but with our team mostly students, its taken a bit of a back seat so its not a priority at the moment). Ultimately DeleD Pro won out because for me as it just had more in it in terms of functionality and ease of use - plus it was cheaper, and I liked the community (and free textures ).
Ironically too, Ive been playing around with torque so DeleD Pro is going to come in handy soon too =) |

Anyways realmcrafter eh? How good is it? Back when we were looking at engines, I don't think we explored realmcrafter much (we DID explore realmforge for a bit tho heh). But I haven't heard lots of good stuff for realmcrafter when I have looked at it... |

Well I bought it just because I get the update to ver 2 for free.
The new RealmCrafter will supports tons of pixel shading effects and features..
You can read about in their engine and rendering engine worklogs here:

Stable setup - does what it says on the tin
Good toolset - Only level editor I know you can unwrap in
Great customer service - Never seen better to be honest for such a small team
The only thing I found complicated was how textures are imported. Once i got that I was flying.
Thats just my opinion though... im sure you will have your own. |
