I would really like to see layers similar like how photoshop or flash does them.
have an ability to select everything on that layer, show hide layers etc... |

For really complex scenes, that would be useful. Although I know other features I'd prioritize higher.
Btw: many high-end 3D modelers use layers, too; 3ds Max for example. |

| Isn't layer functionality close to grouping stuff? I mean, if DeleD has proper grouping, you could easily hide/unhide large portions of you scene. |

Grouping and layers is the same thing with a different name.
