The subtract bugs in 1.70 & 71 are crippling me. I like the rest but the subtract bug ruins my work.
I have DeledPRO license and would like to revert to an earlier version that lacks this bug. I tried 1.70 and it has it too. Where can I find the earlier one that I used to have??

We can make an earlier version available for you in DownloadeD. I'm a bit baffled though, because it has been a time since I worked on the subtract routines and afaik there is no difference between 1.71 and, like, 1.60 or above...

Which version would you like to use, losey?

Oh, there are subtract bugs -- they've been around for a while.

For example: http://www.delgine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2562

Obviously one that subtracts without leaving several polygons behind. I got my first one at the end of November, 06. I know it worked. I dont know whether 1.7 is the first update after Nov??
BTW, the "left over" polygons can't be selected in any way. Some just float there as a remnant of the object used to subtract.

Have you tried selecting it from the other side? In DeleD, you can't select polgons that are facing away from you.

I just did some playing around. "Usually" the bug appears only when subtracting say a cube from a plane object such as a grid, rectangle or polyline. Parts of the cube get left behind apparently as "part" of the plane object. I can "usually" subtract a solid object from another solid object.
I was wrong when I said "can't select". You can click on them but it selects that piece and the remainder of the object subtracted from, even if they are not connected. The bits are "unioned" to the original object.

Frustrating because I really like 1.71 except for the Vista problem that can't write the ini file or terminat.

Yeah, that's not how to use the Subtract command. CSG is designed to operate with closed three-dimensional objects. Using simple 2D planes will not work, as it's not intended to work.

Hmmm. Thanks. I must have missed that somewhere. And no way to extrude a grid into a solid.
I think JWatte had a different sort of problem that I have also encountered but cannot reproduce now.

Wow. It's been a long time since I've seen that bug. I thought it had been fixed. (guess it was me who got fixed. Surprised )

We're talking of this one, for example. For rather simple objects, CSG usually works flawlessly.

CSG is very well defined when the first term is not closed. Any part of the 2D rectangle that is within the cube, should be cut away. This is not hard to mathematically describe, either.

However, trying to subtract an open grid/plane (that's not a full half-plane) from a 3D object won't work, as there's no good way to test for "inside-ness."

So, that leaves JWatte's reported bug about the CSG subtract routine.

@ losey, do you still need an older version of DeleD now?

Thanks, but I guess not. I must have never tried to subtract from a plane surface with my original copy.

BTW, the same error happened when I subtracted a cube from a cube that had been smoothed. There IS a solid object subtract bug but I can work around it since I really like the rest of 7.1.
