|
|
During export, I would like to be able to export the selected objects (or better a group).
When I'm using the C4 engine, I need to have different geometry for the external v.s. internal (for zoning purposes).
Normally (in SketchUp for example) I would select the outside of my structure/building etc.. and export that to a collada file.
I would then select the interior portions of my geometry and export that to a separate collada file.
This allows me to import (within C4) two separate (thus zonable) geometries.
Hopefully I'm explaining this clearly, it's more difficult to describe now that I'm typing it up..
Also, the ability to hide selections within the editor would be nice!! |

Your request makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, our plugin system currently doesn't allow the plugin to request the 'selected objects only', so it's not technically possible to extend the plugin to work that way.
You can definitely hide the selected geometry within the editor, check out the Hide/Freeze tool in the context menu (or Edit menu).
What we could do is give the exporter an option to not export hidden geometry. You would still need to hide/unhide your geometry manually before exporting it, but at least it would be a working solution.
At the longer term we will rewrite the plugin system to support selections (I can hear JWatte think "at last" from here). Grouping is also something we definitely need get support for at some point. |

A selection to export only visible geometry would be just as good for me.
This would at least let me have my exterior and interior geometry in a single file, which makes it much easier for me to create models for C4.
Thanks!! |

This type of functionality would be great for all the exporters. For torque, you have 2 different types of objecs. It would be nice if they could all be made together and seperately exported. (twould make it easier to scale objects) _________________ Some day I will grow up and be a real modeler.

I'm thinking "not soon enough" :-)
Really. You guys should write your own commands as plug-ins. That way, the plug-in system would quickly gain whatever features are missing. Start with the next command you need to implement, and go from there. |

Nope. I'm sorry, but we simply don't believe the massive overhead involved in that approach pays off in added value from third party plugins at this point. |
